Nicely put. When I think of the term "commercial" I think of a genre that is so widespread and popular that producers start to make that kind of music just to make money, not because they are passionate about it. I'm not saying everyone that makes that kind of music does it soley for money though. I'd consider U.S. "pop" to be commercial, but, you have someone like Venessa Carlton who makes "pop", but she seems to have a true interest and passion for the music she writes. However, for every Vanessa Carlton, you have 5 Britney Spears who make a video, shake their ass, and collect their fat paycheck. That's what commercial means to me. |
Vanessa has no good synthwork, I want to hear pop singers play synths, instead of the usual alternative crap. |

She's not fecking Ferry Corsten, she's a goddamn pop artist. If everybody played synths then they're wouldn't be enough variety in music. It's nice to see an artist who can atleast play some kind of real musical instrument. It takes more skill to play the piano than most pop artists could ever dream of having. |

no you like trance because of the way it sounds.. i love club trance esp alot of hte mainstream stuff. Remember it wasnt always mainstream.. does that mean if you blast dumonde - never look back that im gonna blast some unknown progressive track? noo.. cause thats lame.. ill just nod my head and say yea.. this guy/girl likes the music.. its what ill assume.. i assume most ppl dont like things that are commercial because they are commercial.. thats very superficial |
good point, but i didn't say i didnt like sandstorm because it was "cheese." i said i couldnt stand how the ones that go to a club only go nuts to that song. it's like they went there to wait and hear the dj play that one song so they could have a good time...they don't even give the other songs a chance cuz those songs aren't the ones they heard on the radio. i'm just bitter at how you hear some kid blasting sandstorm and he thinks hes the and a trance king even though that is probably the only song he has...i liked sandstorm when it hit the radio...but after living in my town it was horribly overplayed by the ones who didn't even know what they were listening to. that's why i have a certain irritation when it comes to that song. cheers. |

| You can see where people get their ideas about trance though. If I only knew the trance that was on the radio I would also think of trance as commercial (i.e., created with the intention of making money rather than for the love of it (and if anyone says that Kelly Lorenna tunes are made for the love of it I'll shoot them)). Stuff like that, Ian van Dahl, Pappendorf etc isn't meant to be played in clubs any more than Britney Spears is, it's meant to sell. The trouble is that people call it trance. It's not, it's really bad pop music. |

paffendorf has been around for quite some time so i disregard that remark.. sure his lyrics' are cheesy but he has good synths and style.. flying to the moon remix.. and call me now! oh i love that tune.. and its old too.. revolutionary to trance my friend
as well Ian van dahl - will I is an amazing tune in itself.. soo many remixes but nothing compares to the original.. music is what you make of it.. who cares if someone makes a profit doing it .. its a living for some you know? and if you live making money on something you most probably love it.. i dont see producers spending 8 hours in a studio trying to make the crapiest song.. they are actually thinking about the composition.. sure hte lyrichs may be cheesy sometimes but eh. so what its humor..

What do you mean? what would you consider deeper? you shouldnt make direct comments like that without saying IMO |
progressive for an example. way deeper than the usual 4 strings, rank 1, airscape stuff.. though I'm not saying deeper trance doesn't exist, but most of the tracks aren't really underground. |

yes, but it also takes skill to compose & arrange a synth tune. |

Say, that's the guy from Laserdance (van der kuy), damn he made so much cheesy music back in the 80's, although he had a few decent synthriffs. |
