Hey gang, how's the weather up there, EH?
So here's the score: I get about a month off of college at the end of January, and since I haven't been on vacation since I was 12, I've decided that I'm due for a trip. So I was thinking about heading up to Toronto for a few days just to check out the town. Based on this message board and what I hear at college, Toronto is supposed to be a happening place. And since it's only about 500 miles from Chicago, I could easily drive there.
Basically, my question is whether or not it would be worth venturing up there at the end of January, club wise. So if anyone could post who is spinning where at around that time, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, how old do you have to be to get into clubs up there? I've heard 19, but I'm still skeptical, so I figured I'd ask you Canucks about the old scene. Hell, if anyone has any information they feel may pertain to this, let me know.
Thanks true believers. |

Its hard to predict which djs will be in town at that time because a lot of bigtime djs tend to take a 'vacation' shortly after the holidays. However, I'm sure there will be some because all the djs can't take a vacation at the same time now can they?
Also, the age requirement here is 19yrs and older.
Hopefully this will help a bit. Remember, its going to be COLD! (or at least it should be at that time of year)

Thanks brother.
19, WOO-HOO I just turned 20 a week ago! That's what I like to hear. So now my next question, does anyone know any good, cheap hotels I could stay at?
Thanks gang. |

I haven't stayed at many hotels in Toronto, because I used to LIVE there, and when I visit, I stay w/ friends or family.
I stayed @ Holiday Inn once, its not bad... dunno what the prices are like tho.
Anyways, there isn't much to know as to whole will be spinning in Toronto Jan 2003. If its a major DJ, they will most likely be @ either Viva or Guvernment (or Kool Haus, which is sorta part of Guv...).
Even if there are no major DJs, there is still a lot to do in Toronto (except I think Toronto is nicer during the summer).
Go to a Leafs game, spend a day @ the Eaton's Centre, check out China town... lots to do, but Toronto is just a really great city for walking around in. There's very few 'bad' parts of town, so walking around is a blast due to the level of multiculuralism in this city.
Enjoy your trip ;) |

if you have a car to get around that's good .. hotels in the outskirts of the city should be cheaper than downtown ones forsure. otherwise it should still be okay since the transit system here is pretty decent compared to a lotta cities in the US where u absolutely need a car..
if u gotta stay in a hotel then crash somewhere that's acessible by TTC which is the transit system..
otherwise i'm sure a TA or two will open their doors to our TA neighbours to the south .. :D |

Word of advice --> Stay away from TTC, cuz the transit system in this city is a joke...
And for the events in January, there's always something major happening around here... word on the street is that Armin/Ferry might be doing a tag-team tour sometime in early 2003, so, you never know... you might catch that! |

Cool, sounds like it'll be a good time. I just need to save up some dough now and make sure I can get off of work.
In terms of big names in Chicago though, the last one that was here was PvD. Actually, Tiesto was at a club last Sat. night, but because of the goddamn drinking age in america, 21, I can't even get into clubs. Which pisses me off because I want to go see Mauro Picotto in November, but he's at the same club that Tiesto was at, so I'm screwed there too. Lousy damn alcoholic teenagers ruining it for the rest of us.
Anyways, thanks for the info, and if anything has any other pertinent information, keep posting it. Thanks brothers. |
