So this is definitely much different from the paradise environs of BPM, Miami Music Week, and the thing in St. Martin. Basically, for several weekends in January and February, they throw a festival in the frigid cold outdoors of Montreal. Each weekend is three full days of a 2 stage festival, with big names and small names, international acts and local acts. The production and vibe honestly looks pretty damn good. Evidently, there are a number of quality afterparties at places like Stereo and other proper clubs that go until after dawn.
Everyone basically freezes their ass off but it seems like a good time is had by all. Definitely not for everyone but you know what, I think it sounds like an unforgettable experience. It's so hot here all the time, I always thought it would be cool to visit a world-class city like Montreal in the winter time -- something beautiful about a cold winter day in a picture-esque city like Montreal. Good excuse to get some snowboarding in as well, and visit the Unibroue brewery. Seriously thinking about trying to fit this in this year, just for one weekend. Could be a busy first half of the year for me, with NYC Awakenings, MMW, and Movement all on the agenda as well. Exciting times.

Weekend #2 looks damn solid with the likes of Scuba b2b Jimmy Edgar, Maceo Plex, Shall Ocin, and the Martinez Brothers booked. Really all four of the weekends have strong lineups, though some of the individual days are a little weak (and that's only because I'm not familiar with some of the artists -- they very well could be excellent DJs). |
