The difference between rework, cut, edit, remake etc..

PVD always seems to do minor alterations to his songs, but whats the difference from a remake to a rework, cut, edit, or whatever?
Call it a stupid question or whatever, and if someone has asked this before, then I'm sorry, I tried to search for it...

Well, those terms can't be defined ultimately, but I'll tell you what I think of them:

Remake: Can be used generally to mean a remix (e.g., Tiesto's "Magikal Remakes").

Rework: In a PvD sense, it means he's slightly edited a track to better suit his DJ sets. The track will most likely be similar to the original but with a revamped bassline. This could still be used synonymously with remix (e.g., "Binary Finary - Niterider (CA-LO's Tribal Rework").

Edit/Cut: Usually implies the track has been "cut" down for radio play or otherwise. Should be similar to the original except for its length.

i would have sed that a rework/remake is like a remix, but a whole different approach has been given to it, like it IS a remix, but it has changed a lot from the original version.

not sure if im right or wrong. i just think this sounds right.

remix - a mixture of the original idea
remake/rework - same rough idea but 'remade' it has been remade almost totally

In an interview, when Tiesto was asked how he came up with the name 'Magikal Remake', he said... 'Magik' is of course cause he's the magik man, and 'remake' because he wanted to be unique and everybody was using 'remix'.

Lession: Remake is the same thing as remix :)

Radio Edits are 3-4 minute edits of the song so that they can be played on the radio. The radio edits are made by the same artist who made the extended version of the track.

There isn't strictly any difference between them all. It's usually just what the remixer prefers to label them as. For example, Quake names all his remixes 'Quake Remake' because it rhymes with the word 'Quake'.
