Made a Video Tutorial About Writing House Melodies (pg. 2)

I watched almost the entire thing. When you stopped for discussion on a couple of parts I got bored and fast forwarded. But, I will say that overall I liked it. It definitely has that progressive house sound and I definitely like the melody part. I especially like the 3rd measure of the melody. Overall I say its decent- more than what I expected but I'd shift everything over an 1/8th and put all the sounds on the off beat. That's when you get some additional movement and when building the songs get some neat effects on drops and stuff.

go listen to 70s funk.

you are pretty much just going to be doing some sort of blues scale. Thats of course if it is house which for some reason is labelled house but really euro trance or some slowed down hardstyle.

i feel for some of you. not down there either. down there for rann

basically, your video should be retitled

How to use the I VII VI progression and sound like music for 12 year old japanese girls.
Terrible.

you should sit up straight. Stop smoking weed and practice your pouting because your face looks pretty gaunt. The lighting isn't helping. Go to the gym or something.

Go surf tumblr for a while, pale is in. As for the posture, I am tall and lanky and it is a problem, I am actually currently trying to work on it and find solutions. I do go to the gym currently, mainly to lose about 15 pounds to get back into the shape I was 2 years ago.

House is a generic label. I agree it is euro-trance, but I don't want to label it trance because I don't think many people would watch it as trance hasn't really been relevant for 5-10 years now.

Why are you trying to show people how to make this kind of dribble?

I put the video up, did little promotion and it is closing in on 400 views. I just put something up that people are looking for.

you titled the thread how to make house melodies but then the video is actually about making EDM leads? that's the thing house is a feeling and a vibe and is authentic, has rich soul and history, EDM is just knock off radio-pop garbage, why drag house through the mud?

In a way you present an answer for your own question: music isn't about what it is called, but rather it's about the types of things you mentioned.

House music has had an extremely broad definition since before I had ever even heard of it. Whatever its original meaning, I believe connoting the type of music you might hear at The Warehouse in the 80's, times have changed, and describing the music in my video broadly as "house", fits, given the current definitions.
