Masterpiece or pretentious nonsense? I think it's a work of art. Only the first track is noisy, followed by some beautiful ambient. Love the flow.

Lol once you get over the first track its enjoyable.
Not sure what they were going for with that intro track, perhaps trying to scare people away or perhaps using it as an anchor (psychology) to make the other tracks seem much better since humans perceive music in relative terms.

I haven't heard this album since 2010 and the noisy opener is the only thing I can really remember - my friend labelled it "angrient".
I do like Oneohtrix but like a lot of these omni-music quasi-auteurs (see also: Zomby, Rustie, etc.) it really does feel like he makes this stuff in five minutes. Get an idea, sample some stuff, turn it into weird noise and throw it out there. This is the scatter-shot attention span of overstimulated Internet existence condensed into musical form.

I rather like the noisy track, it's pretty trippy. Noise has been around for a long time, and it's often less complex than this piece. It was rather refreshing to hear. The one I like most begins around 9:30, reminds me of Blade Runner. Whether or not he produced it in a short amount of time is irrelevant to me, it sounds very nice.
