woony - january 2016 mix [techno, deep, ethereal, vinyl]

"tracks that make me think of the sun shining through the clouds over endless winter landscapes."

I think that sums up the idea behind this mix. I noticed recently there were quite a few of these deep, ethereal, somewhat melodic tracks coming out and I thought that's a nice vibe to make a mix out of. Of course making deep techno isn't exactly a new thing, but this particular sound, especially at the higher BPM numbers this mix is at seems like a bit of a fresh development. Anyways, I love this sound (makes me think of my roadtrip through norway a few years ago), so this mix is a bit of a love letter. Took a few runs to get the right idea on what I wanted to do. The mixing and levels are a tiny bit iffy in places because I suck but also because some of these records are pressed/produced pretty weird and you get these huge volume/bass changes.

Anyways, hope you enjoy! Would appreciate any feedback.

this was a first-rate mix.

hi there

just had a quick flick through, tempo is quite high and i think your other mix is better, still listen to it occasionally

It's definitely a different sound and I can see why someone would like one mix and the other not so much.

This one was more of a concept mix though, the september mix represents what I generally buy/play much better.

i really like the song selection on this mix so far. Right up my alley. That being said, your mixing has been better on previous mixes but that makes sense since this is probably not your style. Enjoying this all that said.

I wouldn't say it's due to the tracks not being my style, a lot of them just were a bit of a pain in the ass to play due to weird/quirky bass and kicks and not super banging production/pressings. The kinda tracks that sound a bit off even if they're technically matched.

ahh that makes a lot of sense. and this is the main reason why most djs now dont spin vinyl. much easier to take those tracks and digitize them and master them yourself for mixing.

Talking to a lot of DJs I would say the main reasons are not wanting to carry records and not wanting to deal /w malfunctioning turntables, worn down needles, feedback etc. which seems to be the norm rather than the exception these days in a lot of clubs. And of course CDJs let you do silly like looping etc.

I'll check this out :)

I really like this mix woony. If you could somehow correct the damn records for the mix to be smoother this would be straight up fire. These songs flow really well together imo
