| Its becoming quite the fad, gaining momentum even on infomercials. Whats your take on them? I've tried one for a few days, but my feet and back started hurting a bit. Anyone actually use these at home or work? |

| They can be fun, but get the same feeling in the long run. We use desks which one can decide on the height at work. |

If you stand long enough someone will eventually offer to light your cig...

| I use one at work. Mine raises and lowers with an electric motor. Generally I'll stand for the first 3-4 hours I'm at the office, lower it for an hour or so then raise it back up and stand for the remainder of the day. I love it. I find standing especially fantastic when I'm doing things that require me to switch between tasks rather frequently. If I'm working on something that requires prolonged thought or editing of documents then I prefer to sit. |

Personally, if I am going to stand for a period of time I prefer to be walking, rather than standing still.
I had a professor in college who had a makeshift standing desk in his office. It was kind of rickety (may have been books stacked on each other or something of that sort) and I made some joke about it and I think he said he really liked having it, it was great, etc. He seemed really energetic all the time so that may have had to do with that working preference. |

This sounds great! Though I'd probably do the same as Trancelover and just wander about once I stood up :p |

I immediately pictured you as Homer Simpson: "Desk goes up. Desk goes down."
Personally, I couldn't imagine anything more tedious than standing at a desk all day. I very much enjoy getting my lateral slouch on at work, and nobody could accuse the rest of my life of being sedentary. |

Made me think of this:

Apparently all the research suggests that standing for at least some portion of your work day is FAR healthier for you and increases productivity. Sitting at a desk all day erry day basically chops many years off your life expectancy. |
