The issue belongs right here, because of the fact that there are muslim people from toronto and all over canada hopping to go to the US. but that idea. I dont understand why we have to (or anyone of ethnic race) has to put up with this . you bush. You hillbilly jackass.

Then you should know then that the highest muslim population in Canada is in fact NOT Toronto, but Vancouver.

The main reason for moving this thread is not everyone from Canada comes to the Toronto area forum...was just a thought... :)

And this effects more than just Canada...

TheDemon, if you were any sort of smart guy you would research a little bit before you put people down. What if the person that you are bashing about spelling just learned how to speak English and speaks another language at home. Plus all he did was forget a comma.

As in America, paranoid bitches!

Plus it looks like you are flaming yourself because you quoted yourself in your post. Just looks dumb. I think the only reason you are posting in this thread is to start fights and scare people off.

Well i do apologize if i jumped to quick conclusions, issues like this really fire me up. Iam not out to pick fights, just to make a statement. So if i offended anyone plz do accept my appologies. But, this does not mean that this whole issue is going to go unoticed, because its something that we should speak up on.

and i'm gonna think twice about posting articles like this in the future.. the longer i'm on this board , the more and more i realize that sociological issues like this often hit nerves and cause a lot of debate. i'm not saying that discussing and debating are bad.. but when it erupts into flame wars it upsets me. so i'm sorry if i caused anyone here to quarrel it really wasn't what i was wanting to do.

and i think everyone needs to calm down a little too .. i know news like this is upsetting but going nuts on TA won't help. Contacting your MP and getting your friends to contact their MP's will..

so sorry again and i hope so of you guys can come to terms with one another on disagreements you have over this..

wells i think we can all calm down a little now..

U.S. agrees not to screen Arab-Canadians
Americans had proposed new ID measures at border crossings

A vehicle crosses the Canada-U.S. border at Blaine, Washington.

OTTAWA — The United States has agreed to back off from its controversial policy of fingerprinting and screening Canadian travellers of Arab origin, Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham said today.

He told the House of Commons he got the news from Paul Cellucci, the U.S. ambassador.

"He informed me that in the future Canadians carrying Canadian passports will not be treated any differently depending on where they were born or for any reason whatsoever," the minister said.

The screening, which went into force in September, demands photos and prints from some foreign visitors born in a specific list of Arab or predominantly Muslim countries.

The Foreign Affairs department issued a travel advisory on the policy. Such advisories are normally used to warn Canadian travellers about natural disasters, war or political unrest abroad.

The department recommended that Canadians born in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan and Syria, as well as people of Pakistani, Saudi or Yemeni origin reconsider U.S. travel.

Graham protested to U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell on Wednesday and his efforts seem to have been successful.

Graham said the ambassador told him he had spoken to Powell and U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.

"They have given firm assurances that this matter will be dealt with by the American administrative authorities in a way that will ensure that the place of birth in a Canadian passport will not in any way affect when that person crosses the border and that all Canadians will be treated as Canadians when travelling on Canadian passports," he told MPs.

Outside the Commons, Graham said he thought all along the Americans would be reasonable.

"I was confident that we'd work this out as good neighbours and friends.

He said it might take time for the news to filter down to border guards, but Cellucci had assured him that instructions were going out to the people in the field.

Liberal MP Sarkis Assadourian, who was born in Aleppo, Syria, said today was one of his proudest days as a Canadian.

He had said Wednesday the news of the border screening left him feeling like "a second-class citizen."

Today he felt vindicated.

"We can work in this system and change this system," he said.

Graham warned however that Canadians with dual citizenship travelling on a non-Canadian passport, or Canadians who have travelled in regions deemed suspect by U.S. authorities, may still face increased scrutiny at the border.

"We've got a clear recognition by the United States that the place of birth is not the determinant factor as to whether or not this person is a security risk," he said.

end----------------------

then check out what Pat Buchannan said ! wtf..

Your rebuttle was pathetic at best. All of your arguments went out the window and you resorted to personal cheap shots. I'd love to hear how I represent everything thats bad about the scene. Please do tell, since you seem to know me so well. How am I creating politics on this board, I was merely commenting on your question about the American Presidency. You can scroll back if you want, it still should be there. Would it make you happier if I had to enroll in College after my B.A? Would you be happy if I became a street person? I'm happy that you enjoy the failures of others. Your ignorance and piss ass attitude is what is wrong with the scene today. So do us a favor and shut the up. ;)

I know what bush is about. He wants to make Daddy Proud cause he could not finish the Job, George Bush Senior. Must have been his coke problem back in the day. From what I read, Coke problems in the bush family are common. His niece got busted for coke not too long ago. I am telling you guys. Bush JR. just wants to finish off what his daddy started, but he ran out of terms. In this day and age, I hope ppl like him DO not get re-elected. If they did not have that 2 term limit in the USA I bet Clinton would have been re-elected despite his BJ incident. He did a good Job even if eh screwed the interns.:)

this is a generalization comment here to please don't take it too literally!!

what i think the US Government thinks:

"99% of Muslims are not terrorists, unfortunately 99% of the terrorist attacks were committed by Muslims."

again, the actions of a few do not represent the views of the many, unfortunately not everyone sees it that way which is why you have this kind of racial screening. Things were no different in WW2. Thousands of Orientals were being deported from the U.S. regardless whether or not they were Japanese. I think in times like this it's only natural for people to become paranoid. It's one of the unpleasant side effects of evil and violence.
