I mean.....do you listen to both records at once in both ears?....or one record on the left side, and the other on the right?....or just with one ear and the other listening to the moniter?....(kinda hard to explain it but hope you guys get what I just wrote!!:D ) |

hey cheggy |
I start off with the cued track in the phones, live track coming through the monitors. Use right ear in the phones, left ear on the speaker. Then, as they get closer, i bring in the live track into the heaphones, still using one ear. Then i wack on both phones and get it precise |

I listen to the incoming track in one ear in the headphones while the live one is from the speakers(monitor). Then I get it as good as I can. If I have time I"ll put them both in the headphones at the same time to perfect it, but you'lll see as you get better just haivngg the one in your headphones is enough. You'll be able to fix it on the fly when you hear them both on the load speakers. If you can't pitch fix it live, then you're not ready. |

hehe.. it's all a matter of preference.
for me, both tracks in the headphones covering both ears, incoming track at a slightly higher gain level (so it slightly overpowers the outgoing track in the headphones, which can be heard on the monitors/main speakers anyhow)
there's alot of my technique after that, but that's way out of the scope of this post :P

nice joshva, nice.
I like beatmatch with one headphone playing cue and listen to monitors, then when it sounds right, i use my cue fader and fade in between the two tracks to see if its just right. sometimes if i can't concentrate or for some reason i can't get it first try, and put phones on both ears and do the whole holding the record + rocking it on the beat, that always works if your in a pinch. |

COvering up both ears with them bothpllaying is kind of the easy way to do it. Most exp DJ's wil just use 1 ear and then listen to both live ont he monitors when they bring it in. This way you hear what the crowd hears. |

I used to have both cups on my ears to beatmatch until I found out NO RANE mixers have split cue monitoring. I do it the "professional" dj way now. ONe ear on headphones with one track..other ear on the monitors listening to live track. |
