Heading to Sound on Friday night to see Derrick Carter and Greg Wilson.

What can I expect from a Framework night? Not looking for the minimal /darker sound this weekend.

Thx! B

Sound nightclub isn't that bad. It can get a little packed but after about 1:30AM, it slims out just enough to make it comfortable. Drinks are expensive though.

Cool. Nothing better than being on a floor when the 1:30 crowd starts to clear out.

Hoping that DC brings more Chi house. Not sure what Im getting with Greg Wilson. Hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised...like the 1st time I saw Soul Clap years ago. Did NOT expect that sound after listening to soundcloud.

You'll have fun. Although everyone complains about that club, everyone has a great time. I'd love to see DC too. Haven't heard him live in years.

Review? Especially Greg Wilson. I heard the man was playing some type of live reel player or something.

Review:

Adding Steve Prior to open the night was a good thing for me…as he played a little darker with some grimy tech-house, which I appreciated and helped put my mind and body at ease.

Based on my LIMITED knowledge of Greg Wilson, I really didn’t know what to expect and yes, I was pleasantly surprised. Not blown away however. I’m not sure his style of electro-funk / disco meshed well with the overall feel of the night. Didn’t get a look at his rig, but if he was on a reel, that would’ve been pretty cool.

That being said, he kept the floor moving for sure and people were having a good time. Laying a 4-4 over funk / 80’s / soul / disco is not easy and it seemed super forced at points which made matching and smooth transitions almost impossible. A couple times, my Wife and I just stopped, looked at each other, shrugged shoulders, smiled, and kept moving or took a break.

Transitioning from Prior to Wilson to Carter, was really strange as EACH played a different style so there was no real progression to the night. It felt like 3 different nights.

Bringing me to DC: F Me! He simply brought it; banging out proper house and tech-house. I don’t really remember anything specific as I just zoned out and melted during his set. Heads down with a big smile…

It was what I needed the whole night and my legs still hurt. Left the floor 2x to head outside and 2x to grab a drink. Other than that, I couldn’t allow myself to miss any of his set.

Being my first time at Sound, I was thankful for you all in reading past reviews on how the remodel made it less catered to BS (take your pick – bottle service or well you get it) crowd. There was danceable space throughout the night. At 1:30 as predicted it opened up and we had all the room we needed. That was fantastic!

Security did a NICE job on keeping the flow moving and the floor dry too. Nothing worse than dancing in someone’s martini! (RULE: Don’t take a martini on the dance floor!!!) I loved the outdoor space too and was happy to see some open seating inside where we could post up and rest for a couple minutes. Bathrooms were well maintained and the sound was pretty good. A little bass heavy at times (love my earplugs!)

Crowd is exactly what I expected; pretty much all over the spectrum. Some people just stood in the middle of the floor, others had no clue who was playing and were just having fun…but there were enough straight up dancers to make me feel at home. Not a DANCERS club though…but I didn’t expect that going in.

Overall, I will definitely be back for another night.
