Hi there! My wife and I are visiting San Francisco from Florida and we are planning on hitting up the Objekt/Call Super show at the Midway in June. Of course the day after we purchase tickets, Visonquest is announced the same night.
What say ye? Should we stick with our plans or check out VQ? Totally different vibes and music but we want a good representation of a quality night in SF. I'm thinking the wife may enjoy VQ a bit more as that is going to be a little more groovy. The other show a little more heady/edgy. Looking for any suggestions. Thanks in advance and see you on the dancefloor! |

Where is VQ playing?
From what I hear, the Midway is pretty new. It's large venue primarily used for art shows n stuff. At night, they can convert it to concert/club type venue with function 1 sound system. Nice I hear but I don't have enough input to judge it. |

The VQ show is at Mezzanine. Looks like they have a ton of shows there and not strictly a dance club. The Objekt/Call Super show is in the "Gods and Monsters" room at Midway so not sure what that means... I would lean toward the best venue in this situation.... Thanks for the input! |

| The Mezanine is pretty dope. Warehouse feel in the middle of SF. Midway has a room called Gods and Monsters. From someone told me, it'll have mixology bar (fancy drinks) and is kinda nice. Right now, i'm leaning towards suggesting the Mezanine simply based on VQ and providing you with an SF experience. I'm VERY curious about Midway though. I'd personally check out the Midway simply because I know what the Mez and Visionquest have to offer. |

Awesome thanks for the suggestions! I think we are going to stick with our original plan and hit up the AYLI show at The Midway. I saw some good reviews of their last show there and we have dinner reservations in Dog Patch area so we'll be close. VQ is damn tempting though lol |

Just a quick review of our night out....
We finished dinner in Dogpatch area around 10:30pm. I figured we would hit one of the local breweries before heading to the show. We stopped in Harmonic Brewing and we were literally the only people there. Just a little weird but ok, moving on.
The show was in the "Gods and Monsters" room which was a small area on the side of the venue. Pretty intimate space which had me excited. There were two bars inside, a pizza joint in the back and a place to smoke outside. First impression of the visuals was decent. They had 3 or 4 hanging cubes with visuals projected onto them. Minimal but it did the trick.
When we showed up at 11ish there were maybe 100 people there? Not very crowded at all. The opener was setting things up nicely with a solid groove and at 12 Objekt and Call Super came on. To sum it up, I have not heard such quality music over such a wide range of sounds. They were all over the place with techno, house, electro, jungle, you name it. All great tunes. They looked like they were having fun too which went a long way for me. They railed it for about 3 hours and then went a little vocal and housy towards the end at which point I left.
It picked up around 1 or so but never really got that crowded, which makes sense as you had Visonquest for free, way out west and a few other shows that night. Venue was really solid, the sound was on point and staff friendly. If you ever get a chance to check these guys out, I highly recommend. You can stream Objekt's new mix on Resident Advisor site as well which is killer.
Looking forward to visiting SF again! |
