hii.

heres my position. I currently have a e pc, mega e.

Pentium II 350
192 SDRAM
6 Gig HD (slow ass mofo)

thats the heart of it, and a e ROM and Burner (both LG btw, never buy LG equipement).

Basically this PC is always ******ed in some way, shape or form. If it aint crashing its cocking up somehow. Ive always had this problem with music from the HD so i got a brand new sound blaster audigy, and now its fine. Apart from when i play music from either the ROM or the Burner, which i blame souly on them being ty and having a ty link with the pc or something like that, the music likes the jitter every 30 seconds or so, thats if it dont stop period.
Im Forever formatting this biatch to fix crap my brother and sister nacker up all the time, by crashing it and twatting power and all that. Basically its slow, out of date and mistreated (not by me).

I wana start playing games on it again, I know i can upgrade it to Unreal Tournament 2003 level by throwing £300 at it, split three ways between brother, mum and me. But if i do ive got put up with still sharing it, and it still being mistreated and eaten on and all that toss.

Im not allowed my own PC as mum wont allow two in the house, so should i buy a laptop? are they any good? i'd want something like a P4 2Gig hrtz 20 Gig Hardrive 128(min)DDR Ram, decent sound and graphics.

Opinions people? good points down points? how friendly are laptops to change parts, upgrade etc.

raaaar :)

Laptops are expensive for the power they give. If you want a machine for performance and gaming, a desktop could dish out more bang for your buck. I just bought a new computer, waiting for it to be built, tomorrow or saturday, its a

intel p4 2.4b
asus p4pe with intel 845pe chip
512ddr333 ram,
wd 80gig hd w/8mb cache,
sony 48x12x48 cdrw
abit siluro geforce4 Ti4200 64MB

To get the same out of a laptop, which I don't even think you can, I'd have to dish out an additional $1000 CDN. Upgrading laptops are a hassle too... So, unless you need the mobility, go for a desktop. But alawys do some research before you buy your computer, and know what kind of parts are in it. (motherboard, hd, graphics card) I know too many people who get scammed into buying computers with crappy parts.

az coz the only place for another pc is in the dinning room, either next to, or oppersite to this one, now i see no problem with that but mum says its a dinning room not a computer room.

Only other place is if we have a loft conversion and stick me in it, which was the original plan but that went way out the window.

thanks for the reply quddha, ill take note :)

I just got a new Dell Inspiron200N smart step. Excellent laptop. P4 2.0G, 256MB RAM, 30G HDD, 15" screen, DVD-ROM, S-Video output, firewire and usb. Only thing that could have made it better would be a DVD-RW and more video memory (it only has 32MB), but its still great, sooooo much better that my old Compaq with a P2 333 in it.
I don't know about upgrading, because I can't do that. Maybe someone else can advise you on that part.

upgrading a laptop its not so hard anymore these days. but you have to check about losing warranty and stuff like that. i have a laptop, but i cant play 3d games (still dont know why)
laptop is more expensive and i mostly have it for school.

Becuase I don't know if you can find a decent 3d card that can fit into a laptop.

the upgrading parts for notebooks are quiet special and quiet expensive. but when you buy a notebook right now, most notebooks have quiet nice videochips installed (most ati which, imo, stands for quality)

you cant plug in a normal geforce 4 graphics card into your laptop. sorry :)

might as well go all out if you getting a lap top.... my suggestion... "alienware"
2.8ghz p-4
radeon 9000 64ddr intergrated gfx
40gb hdd
24x40x12 cd-rom/cd-rw/dvd
15" display
intergrated 10/100 & modem & USBx4 & firewire aka IEEE 1394
hrmm what else....check the web site... look for area51-m

I have a labtop. If you want to upgrade soley for games I dont think its worth it. Keyboards are sooo much smaller, that even though i made a big keyboard a priority, it's still a pain in the ass, additionally because of the screen, you always get 1-2 fps less than you would on a similarly configured machine w/ a regular monitor.
