Home Studio Desk

I'm currently in the process of building a new studio & was wondering whether anybody had made a custom built desk? I'm after ideas as I'd prefer to make it myself rather than buy one. Plus any height guides for monitors/screens/synths/keyboard & mouse would be great

Cheers,

I wish I had an answer but I am not skilled at building things. However, I am interested in any suggestions as well as I hope to get a studio desk sometime also.

I feel like rejigging my room so that everything is standing height. But currently I am too lazy to do it and I invested in an Omnirax desk which I don't want to get rid off, even though it is not ideal anymore. eg. the monitor bridge was designed for when everyone had crt monitors. I feel like I would be more inspired to produce if I was standing up.

I inherited a massive desktop from my old job once, so I made a studio desk out of it.

All it needed was a couple home made rack cabinets to sit on, which were really easy to build:

Nice studio, aquila! That's a massive amount of desk space.

Heh...it's all a distant memory now because I packed it all up and moved overseas since then. Let's see, I had a Roland JP8000, Roland JX3P, Yamaha CS1x, Novation X-Station, Korg 05R/W, E-Mu Orbit 9090, M-Audio Axiom 25, Behringer UB1832FX mixer, Se X1 Microphone and filter, Phonic PCL3200 compressor, Behringer Multicom Pro, and a porky i7 PC running Reason with a M-Audio Firewire Audiophile interface.

I miss it all so much :(

Don't worry. Once I find a new job and get my own place, I'll be setting up a new studio again...and probably building a new desk too ;)

Nice Studio Aquila!

Honestly, given how much time we spend in front of the damn things, desk space is so important.

Indeed, although care must be taken to prevent accumulation of empty beer bottles and dirty dinner plates ;)

I disagree, now that we have editors for almost every hardware synth and can unlock hidden parameters on them you can stay right in the middle of your desk the whole time and stay in the sweet spot in the stereo image. No need to move side to side. I also think triangle rule monitor distance fits nicely here too.
