Interesting stuff.... is it hard to play music like this?

Acid's pretty simple once you program a riff into the 303. After that it's all modulation; distortion, resonance, cutoff etc.

My sentiments of calling this weird is ironically the same as admiration and respect. You never see this type of person doing anything European related like this. So it's pretty damn cool, I must say. It's weird because it's so uncommon, but it's cool because it's uncommon. Quite unique I must say.

Found this quite interesting indeed. You'd never imagine these people playing such stuff!

You do realize these machines are from Japan, right?
Dj Pluviose
Yeah I know, that's the ironic thing. The tools are from Japan but it wasn't them that carved the classic electronic music structure, right? It was the awesome Europeans :)
Well, Detroit kinda started techno and all, but of course Europe took it further.

It was the awesome Americans who I believe started acid house. In Chicago, I think. Acid was then popular both in Europe and the States.

Americans these days don't even know what Acid is, even though apparently they pioneered the style. Just like how Americans these days don't even know what oldskool boogaloo hip hop is either. Acid was far advanced for its time, and still is today.
On topic though, I heard the 303 and all proper classic electronic music studio hardware was really expensive, like thousands and thousands of dollars. I'm curious as to why the hell it is so expensive to make oldskool syle EDM tracks. Was it more expensive back then, or is it just more expensive now because the hardware is somewhat rare and out of production, because of the easily accessed digital software music making programs?
Syntonic
303 was a pretty sophisticated piece of hardware in the 80s. It was a new way for an artist to replace the need for a bassist but wasn't acid until it was used unconventionally to produce the squelchy sounds.
SYSTEM-J
The 303 was an abject failure as a bass synthesizer and was discontinued due to its unpopularity with musicians, which is why original models are now expensive.
The vast majority of modern acid sounds are made by emulator software or on other, newer hardware designed to replicate the sound.

I don't get what people like about her videos. I truly don't. It makes no sense. Japan is full of talented producers. Mostly female, for some strange reason, but there are loads of them.
Do you like ambient? Boom, there's Piana:
Do you want fun acid-like hip house? There's Charisma.Com:
If you want proper Japanese acid techno, I can't find you a femal producer, but you can have some fearless bollock-wielding J-acid techno as well, with D.A.V.E. the drummer giving an extra hand:
I don't understand why people prefer acid cringe over this. But then, I don't get why people don't love happy hardcore either, so there's that :p
