Big steaming pile of .

Looks like it's going to be $1500 for an 8 voice VA

The only reason people are considering it is because it comes pre-installed with Jupiter 8 and Juno 106 plugouts.

Only has one real LFO in System 8 mode, and there's no reason to have 8 voices in a VA these days.
MSZ
But it has nice green lights that look mad sick in the dark 10/10 will buy.

Only piece of new Roland kit I'd buy is a Boutique re-release of the JP8000/8080. But they haven't bothered. So....

It works standalone too, but it's basically the same AIRA boards they used in the TB8, TB3, JU06 etc etc.
rubez
getting this definitely. been looking for the best place to pre-order.

watched to all the demos and think it sounds FANTASTIC. the sweetwater video in particular is great for musicality, and the raw oscs sounds and look great fun in the kosmic video. it's only 8 voices because it is modeled on hardware. nick batt said he was impressed with it.

looks nice and simple, but not too simple, for beginners to synthesis. no menu diving. high quality jupiter and juno recreations in one box, with all the extra stuff. can't go wrong.

looks much better than the JDXA aesthetically... non glossy surface, metal cheek ends, on/off/dimmable lights.

can't wait.

Nope
rubez
why else would they artificially limit themselves to 8 voices then?

this is ACB. i imagine they modeled the system-8 on an theoretical synth, and the jupiter and juno are modeled on the respective hardware. they gave themselves 8 voices, as that's all they'll ever need for plug outs.

Profits.

The one thing they could do to redeem themselves is to have an update in the future where you can switch from 96k to 48k and double the polyphony.

rubez
dispatched. aw yeah.

i think this will be a very good long term synth.

According to Roland the System-8 will be the main focus point for new ACB developments. With over 8 times the DSP power of the System-1, of which currently only a fraction is used, users can expect various expansions and enhancements in the future.

i don't think doubling the polyphony is out of the question, i think it is a very real possibility... at least giving full polyphony to two plug outs simultaneously in split mode is surely earmarked. they push these hardware products out the door with the firmware still bare bones, and beef it up as they go.

roland usually give their products updates down the line with substantial features. jdxi just got a meaty update. i think the system-8 will morph into a different beast in the coming couple of years.

not forgetting the juno 106 plug out in a few months, which i am looking forward to more than the jupiter 8 - and the new plug outs they have in the pipeline.

hope/expect to see the number of patch locations expanded in some way too, other than SD card. there will be new patches to download on their axial site.

lastly, i'd like to see the original jupiter/juno plug outs expanded upon (e.g. usable sub osc)
