can someone post an example of an EDM track? 10 or so years ago TA taught me it meant electronic dance music, but clearly the acronym doesnt mean that anymore.

It's the ultra commercialized version of dance music fit for radioplay and fist pumping. Kinda like trance was a bit over a decade ago, but we refused to believe it.

Despite the oversized breakdowns, sugar-trance still followed basic dance music conventions and track structure, though. EDM style tracks now have lost any connections with club music, they are just 3-4 minute radio pop songs with a clear song structure and maybe half a minute you can actually dance to. EDM DJs literally stopped beatmatching anything years now ago, they just fade between tracks with FX.

Regarding the Beatport charts, manipulating the charts with fake buys is incredibly easy since digital sales are so that it doesn't take a lot of tracks sold to get into the top 100. With how EDM is all about fake social media BS, I'm fairly certain a whole of EDM labels were clogging the top of the charts that way, now it's probably not worth it anymore. The actual main beatport demographic has always been people buying bro-techno and ibaza/tech house.

I choose to believe 'ibaza house' is an actual thing, like a derogatory term for bland Innervisions records. :gsmile:

PVD invented the term back when it meant underground dance. now that is means cheap screechy big room, PVD again is at the forefront of that music. a true pioneer.

I don't think I've ever bothered looking the general charts... Aren't they usually rigged because of pricks buying their way to the top spots and whatnot?

I've learned to rely on Spotify anyway, for everything from Rio Funk to Happy Hardcore - it knows what I like and gives me what I want. I then go to Beatport or iTunes to support the artists every now and then and check what they have under "people also bought" for extra feedback. And that's it.

I buy whenever it's cheaper than iTunes (i.e. when there's a sale).

I would imagine that music enthusiasts like myself are still purchasing full length tracks off there to add to their collections and/or to support the artists that they love. Although I don't buy MP3's off there, I buy WAV's. :p

I don't buy very much from Beatport, but I find a lot of music there. It's essentially a huge, very easily navigated database of artists, remixers and labels. Once I've found tunes I tend to buy them from cheaper places.
Trance-M
I buy from Beatport mainly because of it's hold bin and put track in it until I find a decent coupon or discount.
I had a look at the Trance top 100 today. Haven't done that for a very long time as I can't remember last time I did.
