Playing music pitched down (pg. 2)

I'll play psy at 80 BPM, watch me.

Someone I know did a mix of psy time-stretched down to about 105bpm. I tried listening to it, because I do like those psy-dub tracks at that speed, but the whole thing just sounded horribly choppy from all the artefacts.
Tangil
The CDJ time stretching sound was no good. Haven't tried with Traktor but overall I prefer just to go with the original key setting.

I finally bought a new laptop just before Christmas and got hold of Traktor. Locking the key does open up a massive amount of possibilities with mixing, because you can play tracks together that are 10bpm apart originally. The array of possible tunes to play next multiplies enormously.

Do any of the mixing programs out there tell you what key a track has changed to after you have pitched it (without key-lock on) ? I think that's often a big problem with my own mixing, is being unable to tell via my own ears what key a track has changed to after I've pitched it one way or the other.

A track will go up or down by a semi-tone when you pitch it approximately 5% in either direction. So if you take a track in E minor and pitch it up by 5% it will go up to F minor. Think of an octave on a keyboard, with each key being a 5% change:

That is excellent to know; I should have asked you earlier :o

Interesting. Was your Repose set mixed on Traktor?
SYSTEM-J
Yeah it was. In that set, Compass Error is at something like -6, but the key is locked. When I listen back, I can't even tell it's been slowed down, really. It's a very slow, spacious track to begin with. Without the pitch dropping, you can barely hear the difference.
Tangil
Yeah it sounds pretty good. To me it sounds slower but not unpleasant, which the pitch lock obviously helps with. Had it been a track I'd never heard before it wouldn't have been noticeable at all.

OrangestO
Love it.

Does anyone else grab all their 45rpm records and play them at 33?
