ASC - Fenris

Hiho peeps,

This tracks is ing amazing. I have never heard anything similar to it. Have you??
SYSTEM-J
Apart from the Grey Area broken-beat percussion, it doesn't sound that different to a lot of the ultra-hypnotic techno doing the rounds these days. I take it you're familiar with Abdulla Rashim, Donato Dozzy, Luigi Tozzi et al?

Thanks for your reply

I really dig Tozzi's 'Calipso'. Now that you mention him, I should have another look at his discography. Most of Rashim's stuff I find too dark (and boring). I prefer the more melodic/atmospheric stuff, especially with breaks etc. like the part at 1:30 :)

If anyone can suggest anything remotely similar, please do.

Edit: something similar to Alan Backdrop's 'Salko' would also be much appreciated.

If you haven't already, try this remix ASC did that came out last September. It is a bit lighter than Fenris, but I listened to it a lot a few months back.

Love that record but it's almost dub techno, isn't it? Enklav has a lot of nice ambient techno from Chevel also.

I don't know what you're aware of already, so here's some random stuff from my collection.

Anyways, check out the Voices From The Lake album. Also Nuel and Dozzy's solo works. A lot of stuff on Northern Electronics fits your bill, especially Acronym 'June', some of the Varg stuff, Dorisburg's stuff. Maybe some of Conforce's stuff, he has some break-y bits. Lobster theremin/Mörk have a lot of nice murky, warm ambient/dubby stuff. Definitely check out Mohlao and his aliases. Earlier Monolake will definitely fit your bill, especially the stuff around 99-2001. Sandwell District - Feed Forward definitely. Maybe some of the more recent Reeko. The last Blue Hour record. If you want more breaks-y stuff maybe R-Zone.

Thanks, I'll give it a spin right away :-)

Thanks a bunch for taking your time to share this list! Actually I was thinking about the track itself (Salko), which I suppose is more techno than dub techno - I'm certainly no expert, though. Also, I welcome all recommendations as long as we're in the dub/techno/ambient realm :-)

I have some browsing at hand! I'm unfamiliar with several of the artists you mention, so this should make for an interesting evening. It's funny you mention Lobster Theremin - I just came across this label yesterday. nthng 'It Never Ends' is pretty sweet - reminds me a lot of Edanticonf's 'Forest Echo'-album which has a sort of vibe that seems rare, or at least I haven't been able to find much like it.

Sandwell District are pure quality, but their sound is probably as far as my current taste allows me to go in terms of "darkness" - maybe I'll grow more accustomed later on :p

Conforce is certainly quality, but there's a tat too many bleeps and beeps for my taste - maybe it would be rewarding to dig a bit more here, still. I'll get right to it.

Maybe these?

Woony, I didn't rate it, but I'm surprised you haven't mentioned that Skee Mask album for breaksy atmospheric techno.

Check out his Deep Blue Part 2 album from last year. Some very ASC-esque spacey atmospherics on a deep, hypnotic tip.

Haven't gotten around to listen to more of his yet, this will be my starting point. Sounds very interesting!

Can any of you recommend anything similar to these tracks, btw?

Edanticonf 'Perspective from a Seafront' and 'Forest Echo'
Iori 'Electromagnetic'
nthng 'It Never Ends'

Cheers, and thanks for all the inputs :)

I think Vril would probably tickle your fancy.

Oh, indeed. Especially this mix: Smoke Machine 089

Thanks for reminding me :toocool:

Anyone knows the track beginning at ~1:10:00? So awesome.

This new Ness LP sounds like it should be good, the track around 12 minutes sounds like something you might be looking for:

Also, the TGP LP 2 from this label was pretty good:
