Did anyone actually buy the new Techs?

Was just wondering if anyone bought or has used the new Technics Decks - Haven't heard of anyone actually getting their grubby mitts on them and also heard that a lot of people just bought them to keep them in their boxes as a collectors item.
Anyone had a go? Thoughts? |

No intention to get them - got my dream pair of Technics 1210M5G in excellent condition in 2014, after using a decent NuMark TT-1625 for years. If I had a lot of extra cash, I would buy a pair to resell them later. Haven't seen any retailers or online shops that carry them, though, even at Guitar Center. In fact I have only seen one eBayer in Japan selling one at $4,550 including shipping: https://www.ebay.com/itm/122482075491 |

Consider it consume price indexed compared to the old one.
I bet the new todays version in year 2050 at 1300 isn't bad at all then, and second hand probably same as today's second hand. Quality cost.
Think about what you pay for smartphones and how long they last... that's absurd.
This thing may very well outlast all of us.
My grand kids may use my old decks when they start djeing after the nuclear war.
I'll sit there and talk about the rave days and 1210s to big eyes over the bonfire in the apocalypse and one day they will inherit my old 12". |
Yeah but at least smartphones are always evolving and adding new tech. What's really new about the new techs? |

In terms of new functions, basically nothing.
But in terms of refinement, everything is new on the latest techs. New motor, spindle, bearings, chassis, electronics, tonearm, wiring, pitch pot...it's basically a new turntable, but it's still the same principle of 150 years ago where a needle reproduces sounds from a groove cut in to a disk.
If you think about, smartphones now are really no different from my first smartphone in 2003 which had a color screen, apps, data, gps...it's incredibly minor increases in functionality beyond the jump from a basic GSM phone to smartphone.
technics did that with the 1200, and really you don't get massive jumps in the original tech, just refinements.
The only thing I really feel they missed was some kind of build in DVS, like a constant data stream protocol (, they could have just used SMPTE) from the platter.
That would have put serato and traktor out of business overnight. |
