Two things strike me about this:
1. Sasha being late for his own boat party is absolutely quintessential Sasha.
2. All this stuff about VIP tables and big underground DJs playing at commercial meat market clubs is so alien to me. That culture just does not exist in the UK. The only club I've ever been to like that in the UK is the Ministry Of Sound, which is basically a gigantic tourist trap. But then I read about places like Stereo in Montreal which sounds like a music lover's dream. Dance music in North America is so ing strange. |

Oh yeah it's totally a Toronto thing. It's not lacking for incredible acts always coming through but the crowds are noticeably try hard compared to every other major NA city I've been to to party.
We've also lost the best clubs years ago to condos or other developments. Nothing had ever REALLY filled the void of places like Guvernment, System Soundbar, or Industry (which was before my time/I never went to but anyone who did will say so).
Yes, Stereo is Mecca. The difference even between MTL and Toronto is huge. Thank God MTL is just a short plane ride away.
I'd say there's been a pretty decent warehouse revival the past 5+ years in TO. I don't care for clubs and much prefer the vibe and execution of warehouse jams. Again, TO definitely never lacking for sick talent coming through. Just need great spaces. |

| Wanted to catch them in Bristol last month with Warren on opening duties at Motion but a resale ticket never popped. The flight would've been a PITA and expensive anyway. Wonder how that party went. |

Before 2019 I hadn't seem them together since the early 2000s. I really didn't know what to expect in 2019 but it exceeded anything. Incredible venue (The Brooklyn Mirage), great crew of friends including TAs, and overall top tier crowd and vibe - it was mostly older people!! Very noticeable difference when the old schoolers are in full force. Also, NYC. <3
I don't even recall how I was convinced to take that trip. I'm not one for FOMO and at that point I really had zero faith in Sasha. But holy hell am I glad I let my friends take the wheel - that was the last big headliner party I went to before Covid, and when the pandy was full swing and we were all cooped up, I thought of that adventure often with full appreciation. |
