All you need is www.residentadvisor.net, subscribe to your favorite promotion newsletter, or get the RA app (iOS currently, may have been brought over to Android by now). It's more than enough. Facebook is the worst, deleted that trash years ago and never been happier. I'm a fan of Twitter and IG, though, although only registered with Twitter. Soundcloud and Youtube are the most addictive for me because of the music.

Funny that you mention RA App. I just installed it about a week ago. That's my go to app now that i don't have social media.

For San Francisco, this is the website to use: http://19hz.info/eventlisting_BayArea.php

I'm not a big fan of using RA since they leave out a lot of shows and events that fall outside of the genres that their community, for lack of a better term, feels is 'pure' (i.e techno)

This is coming from someone who goes to all kinds of shows from techno to folk, though... I know a lot of you are just techno heads :P

Dude! That site is sick! I remember an old TAer ran another site dedicated to SF based events. Wish we could have something like this for LA as well.

edit*

just saw that you can switch it to LA as well. oops.

That's good to know, I'll check it out next time I'm in the Bay Area. I have to agree with you about RA, although it is great, it is a tinge elitist and exclusive to specific genres of dance music.

It was a pretty good club, nothing to write internationally about, but it's roughly the same quality level as Audio (which I also like a lot, and have been to a few times). They had good drinks and friendly bartenders. The sound quality seemed fine to me generally, although it was too loud (good thing we have earplugs) -- I much prefer soundsystems that are tuned so that they are still 'loud' but they don't cause ear damage. I would definitley say that there was something missing on the low end. I think they could have done a lot more with the visual setup they had in the club, it's a cool setup and idea but just wasn't being utilized to it's potential. Mostly just what seemed like random epileptic flashing rather than cool patterns/tracers/flows that I think could have been easily implemented.

Per standard SF practice, they totally oversold capacity and it was generally a sardine fest, but we were able to dance ourselves some space in the large swaths of dudes in black v-necks that stand still the entire time (I've noticed this is a big thing in SF techno shows, not sure if it's the same elsewhere?)

Moudaber stopped at 4am, so she did a 4 hour set. Which was probably for the best, we were riding up our dancing limit by that time so we called it a night.

4.5 or 4/5 Would go back again

e: shoutout to the coat check girl for giving us free halcyon branded fans that we used to keep cool

Great review, thank you!

We have had some things come up, so we aren't able to make it up in July. (haven't been to the city in 2.5 years...miss it so.)

Yeah, I swear earplugs have extended my dancing life by YEARS. Good to hear the sound was decent and the space was too.

Will never understand standing in the middle of the floor...really its a dance club, not a line in the grocery store, jagoff. Keep your phones in the pocket and dance.

Don't mind crowds as long as we're all moving to the music.

Bummed that we cant make it up, but have some fun things here in LA.

Unicorn Party on 7/3 at The Mayan and Gene Farris later in the month. Might try to coax the wife for Flemming & Lawrence in August as well. Ooh and possibly Migs and Ricardo Torres in West LA after our anniversary dinner. (fingers crossed on that one!)

Amen, I really don't understand people who go to a club and spend them night looking at a phone or filming it, so they can "re-live" it. They didn't "live" it the first time round lol.

Sure thing!

Unicorn event at the Mayan is for Camp Charlie (BM Camp). Their art car and camp is a giant fire-breathing Unicorn, which is kinda awesome. Headliner for 7/3 is DJ Dan.

Event link is below:

Haven't been to the Mayan either, so I am really looking forward to this.

Gene Farris is at Couture in Hollywood on Friday 7/21. Will definitely be at this one.

Flemming and Lawrence is at Avalon on Sat 8/12. Not a huge fan of Avalon, but J00f's been on my list for ages and have not yet had the chance.

Haven't been out since WMC this year, so I am trying to pack it in this summer. lol.

Some very sad news today west coasters. DJ Lyndsay passed away last night. She was a very active member of our community board here up until a few years ago, and I'm sure that almost all of you knew her. This is a loss that is being felt all over the SF dance community.

I only met her on a handful of times, but she was always incredibly friendly, warm, and welcoming to me, which especially stands out in my mind because I was new to the area and found it difficult to make new friends, so meeting someone like her was like finding a shining beacon on a dark night and made me feel more welcomed to the community at large.

May she rest in peace

Oh my God.....

She was always so nice and made people feel welcome.

Really upsetting to get this news.

My most heartfelt wishes to her Family and Friends.

oh no!!!! a totally awesome and amazing person. This is a very sad day. I remember she was saying that she was planning on retiring from DJing as she needed to focus on some other things. I know it may be too soon to ask but what did she die from?

Ran across this yesterday and made me smile and tear up at the same time.

She was really special.

I strongly feel it's up to, and respectful to, the family to decide what, if anything, is made public (such as on an open forum like this). For the record, I do not know the details.
