Mayweather vs. McGregor

| Anyone going to bite the bullet and PPV the Mayweather vs. McGregor bout tonight? At $50, I'd be all in...but at $100 for an HD stream, I just can't justify it. In any event, how do you see the bout going? I have to admit, I've never watched Mayweather box a single match, but from what I've heard/read, he is one of the greatest defensive/tactical boxers in the history of the sport. I've seen a few clips of McGregor in the UFC, and the man appears to have a lot talent, too. However, I just don't know enough about either sport to say whether or not MMA skills translate 1:1 to the boxing ring. Maybe I should start a Go Fund Me account to see if someone will feel sorry for me and pay for half the fight! :D |

I read somewhere quite a few doctors fear they can get hurt because McGregor isn't quite as experienced in boxing.
I just want to get in the ring and remind them the path to glory is through love and conversation :( |

| I don't know anything about the fine art of men punching each other, but even I know this is an absolute farce and Mayweather will win comfortably. |

See, this is the overwhelming opinion, from both arm chair analysts, sport writers, and "professionals". And, chances are, they are probably correct. This, more than anything, makes me cringe at coughing up $100 bucks for a dog and pony show that going to just make 2 already rich men even richer. But, the animal instinct buried deep in my little human brain says, "Ugh...pay money, watch men fight...you have fun!" |

| Connor has 4 rounds to put him away, after that he's not gonna be able to touch him. |

I've never watched a full UFC match involving McGregor...just a few compilation/highlight videos on YouTube. I understand he has a mean left/left hook. As skilled as he may be in the octagon, those fights are almost NEVER 2 guys standing and trading punches for all the scheduled rounds. It's much more likely to turn into a ground/submission game rather quickly. I'm not saying Connor can't stand and trade blows for multiple rounds, but that's definitely not modern MMA/UFC style at all. |

Well, yeah, that too. But, you can probably stop that with hamburgers and a couple of mixtapes called "Fire & Fury", if I understood Trump correctly. |

Well whether its in the clinch or not he's going to try to tag him in the beginning because that is his only chance. Like you said, those guys dont go twelve rounds. At the same time throwing kicks and grappling take a lot more energy out of you than punching, but I dont think that'll be a factor.
About the punching though, this is where things get interesting. Mcgregor is not a boxer. He knows serious karate, muay thai technique and that sort of thing so his punches are nothing like what Floyd or any other boxer is used to. They might not be as tight in execution and powerful like a boxer's punch, but in return they're legitimate martial arts strikes, tried and tested, perfected, by eons of eastern martial arts practioners, passed down for centuries. Illusive, well timed, deadly strikes. A karate punch doesn't have any wind up for example, its almost impossible to see one coming if you're not waiting for it. This is where this fight is most interesting in think. Boxing is a science but the martial arts...it's in the ing name. |

And THIS, the flip side of the coin/analysis, is what makes me ALMOST pony up the hundred bucks to see the spectacle! |

Firstly, Kodi is free and will have all the streams. It will look like an atari 400 sometimes in terms of graphics but you can spend that $100 on beer and it won't matter.
Second, McGregor doesn't really stand a chance unless he somehow gets a lucky punch in there or five. And he better not bother with body shots and Mayweather has the best record in boxing history of protecting his body. McGregor simply can't go the distance as Mayweather is a technical fighter that has only ever had one TKO in his entire career with every other fight being won on points (and that one TKO was when the other fighter didn't realize that they could fight and Mayweather sucker punched him).
McGregor is basically going to be using 10% of his skillset to try to beat a guy that has spent 20 years perfecting 100% of his skillset.
Going to be interesting regardless ...but here's the kicker:
If McGregor does ANYTHING outside of straight up boxing technique, the fight is stopped, his contract is void and he doesn't get a penny, so it's not impossible that if he's getting a beat down, he may do something that "quits" the fight. |

| How is either sport, MMA or Boxing, even legal in the 21st century. People paying good money to see grown men beat each other is surely a sign of a decadent civilization more than anything else. |
