i just saw him for a 2nd time in Toronto over the weekend.

WTF all i gotta say man. i also brought along two of my coworkers who i told they're "gonna be in for a treat" and now I have egg on my face.... thanks fam.

i usually do a quick review before I see whomever live (check out their recent mixes/shows) to get a feel of what the nights gonna be like. anyway i checked this mix out and i was super pumped for my ears hear some very melodic prog/spacey stuff.

the night? nothing, it was like he couldn't find his groove or something. no really outstanding tunes, nothing that made me go "holy ing " it was honestly a night and day difference between his radio show and what he did live.

the club was pretty small and intimate and this would have gone over so well (not to mention his opener set him up with an easy slam dunk playing wicked ass melodic stuff to continue on from)

the 1st time I saw him I recall it being quite good and him playing guy j - candyland and kerb staller - siren song stuff like that

off night I suppose

Yea I heard he has a pair of caged midgets, he lets them both out once a week one of them sucks his dick, the other mixes the radio show.

Sounds like you may want to catch Nick Warren next time.

One thing I've learned (many years too late) is that radio shows and compilations aren't at all reliable gauges of what someone sounds like on the floor, and Cattaneo is no exception, though this is far more often a compliment than a criticism. I haven't seen Warren in around three years, but I think he's more likely to deliver the goods if floaty big room melodies is your thing,

Funny, the last time I saw him he was B2B with Henry Saiz, and he was too spacey at the wrong time of the night. The other two times I've seen him he's killed it though. A hell of a lot more driving in a club than his radio shows.

What was he playing when you saw him?
DJ RANN
Toronto is as strange place though; I saw Dj's play completely different in TO than they would other places. It must have happened a dozen times when I lived there. I wonder if that's a real factor or if I just got weirdly unlucky?

They save the magic for montreal / stereo. A touring dj is not gonna expend his energy / creative focus fully every night, its part of being human. We got a good diggers set a few years ago.

i think it really depends on the promoter/club. the main clubs suck and the DJs that they book are the same ones that they book multiple times a year. a bad hernan set does seem unlikely.. i'd give him another chance. most of the good parties for me anyway don't happen in any clubs any more

He either pulled back or had an off night. I'd bet the former.

You catch him in the right venue with the right crowd and he's magic.

Like the pro that he is.

At least it wasn't moby flapping his arms in the air , and playing full on banging techno in front of an arts & yoga festival which is what i witnessed not too long ago ..

I guess hernan had an off night which is surprising considering ive heard a lot of people praising him as of late....but i guess it depends on where and when u catch em ...
