Distortion in Sony V700DJ?

Hey guys, I hope someone can help me out with this little problem. I'm using the 700's to spin with and a PCV-275, and in the phono-2 cue I hear a bunch of distortion at low cue volume and at high cue volume. The cue signal from phono-1 doesn't have that problem. It doesn't hamper me from mixing, but it is mildly annoying. Do you think it's the headphones or some part of the mixer that is faulty?
Thanks! |

| Assuming this Sony V700DJ is a CD system, then I think CD players are supposed to be pluged into LINE IN and not PHONO. I maybe wrong because I don't spin cd's but try it. |

yea check to make sure your not using the phono source if your using cd dekz
the phono connection is amplified and if you connect a regular source in there it will distort nasty
oh...check your gains also
i dont have a 275 mixer so im not really sure
i know a lot of other members have it so hopefully they will be able to help out :) |

Yeah, I was referring to the Sony MDR-V700DJ headphones :stongue:
Anyone using the same headphones have distortion problems with their mixers? On a side note, I used the headphones for a bit to plug into my computer and other accessories and did not notice distortion. So I'm not too sure if it's the mixer's problem or not... |

| maybe you have like a main volum turned down too low, and your turning your headphone preamp too high? how do the settings work? how do the different volumes affect eachother with your mixer? maybe its just the mixer... |

| I have the 700 dj and never had any distortion problems with them. |

My mistake about CDJ's. However if your headphones work fine on phono 1 and not phono 2 then it definitly isn't the headphones. Headphones either work or they don't.
My guesses in order:
1) Needle on phono 2 deck
2) Some types of settings (eq's or gain's) on mixer
3) Problem internally with mixer |

| Hmm thanks for the input guys! I just checked the phono2 needle and found that the stylus wasn't seated all the way into the headshell. I have Ortofon Nightclubs by the way. After pushing it in all the way, the distortion has disappeared (at least so far). Thanks Devbert! |

| Glad I can help. If there ever is a problem with sound, the first thing to check are the needles. |
