I'm sure most if not all of you have heard of this app before. And some of you might even use it regularly.
I love accidentally stumbling upon a record I've heard at the club or wherever. Sometimes it takes years to hear it again, if at all.
That feeling - reliving the moment when you first heard it - is special and always seems to reignite my passion for the music.
Isn't that part of the magic? Trying to track down IDs - sometimes to no avail. But when you do find that gem, isn't it as brilliant as ever?
Is Shazam changing how we discover music? What's your opinion on this app? Like it or hate it?
I wonder what DJs think of it. Does it make you search harder for hidden gems and dig deeper into your crates? |

I use it sometimes. I don't particularily mind it, I almost never remember tracks quite well enough to find them again afterwards. Most DJs will give you the ID if you ask so if I really want to know a track I would have asked anyways in a lot of situations. Maybe some DJs even like it because it reduces the amount of people bothering them for IDs :p
Shazam can only find tracks that are on Beatport and Juno which means that it won't find unreleased tracks and most old records that never made it to digital. Most of the legendary IDs from back in the days were dubplates anyways so I don't think Shazam changes a whole lot in that regard. Although maybe DJs already adapted unconsciously since it's common these days for techno DJs to play mostly promos and common for house DJs to play mostly obscure old records :stongue: |

| Yeah, it's cool to find the name of tracks. Everything in moderation though. I've got a mate who will constantly say "Shazam" every time a half decent tune comes in. The less time spent staring at your phone the better. And it does get some tunes wildly wrong. |

Just an FYI its accuracy is sometimes off, especially live. Best to double check during the same song if you really need to know.
Edit: just realized system j noted the same inaccuracy thing. |

| You can generally tell by the artist name and cover if it's a wrong ID though since it's almost always some commercial pop-EDM garbage. I've rarely have had it give me a mismatched underground ID. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they deliberately insert these EDM tracks from guys that pay for advertising on spotifiy as fake IDs for tracks can't be ID'd. |

finding IDs has always given me the s. it was ok in 2001 when everything was new and shiny to this former metal fan, but im ing old now. it's been almost a decade since i had a real gig, so just give me the track's name so i can buy it on release and add it to my car's USB.
never really used shazam, and definitely not live (too few parties, sadly). i figure i'll get better luck on sites like 1001 tracklists. |

It has a weird habit of incorrectly ID'ing tracks as other tracks the same DJ has actually played. There's no way it can possibly know which DJ it's listening to, so it must be coincidence (or just the relative similarity of tracks within genres). |

| The only thing I hate about Shazam is the people who hold their phones high in the air with it on, filling my field of vision with the blue lights. I really hate when people have their phone screens on high brightness in the club =/ |

| I used to work as a stock boy where I met my wife and there was this song that would play which I felt perfectly embodied her. I will never know what that song is...wish shazam was around 10 years earlier. |

Has anyone else noticed the Shazam logo on some TV commercials?
You Shazam the song playing in the advert, and it takes you to a website. It's essentially a QR code for sound.
Could totally see restaurants and the like adopting this, if they haven't already. Shazam the music playing and get taken to the online menu.
Brilliant marketing, if you ask me. Not that I would ever use it :o |
