Oh, right, the expats (and the tourists)!
Hmm.... I'm not sure arrogance is the best way to describe your fellow countrymen abroad. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but they're usually more like... Boris Johnson, or the kids from Inbetweeners. Are they arrogant? Not really. But being "cheeky" can be seen as being rude if you take seriously whatever it is they're not respecting... And it can come across as arrogant if you think they're doing that because they couldn't care less. |

| If Russia doesn't cruise to the Finals while the other teams find themselves with an unexpected, acute case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome during this tournament, then I have no idea why the Russians even bothered hosting the World Cup. |

As a matter of fact, why isn't Gareth Bale playing for the UK!?
|
He's Welsh. England has Kaine everybody calm down, I'd be more worried about whoever the head coach is, there is talent for days on that squad. |

Exactly! Team GB would be a much better squad than just four regional unfulfilled promises! |

| That's true! Serious case of "shooting yourself on the foot" I hadn't thought about. |

Actually, it makes a lot of sense.
Much like Asian countries had done before us, Brazil hosted the Olympics and the World Cup because our government wanted to show the world we're ready to sit at the adults table (a good chunk of the population disagreed, however, with disastrous consequences). Russia wants to show a friendlier face to the world, hosting both the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014 and the World Cup next year. It's unlikely Russia will advance to the knock-out stage, but I don't think that's what they had in mind anyway. |

Blame that on Welsh / Scottish parochial nationalism. They won't even enter a Team GB football team to the Olympics because they're scared it will mean the end of separate national teams.
I don't agree that we have "talent for days". A few good strikers and wide forwards, and some promising young players, but our defence is terrible and we don't have a single established midfielder who can pass the ball. Compared to the days of Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Ferdinand, Cole, Rooney et al, it's pretty feeble. |

I wasn't familiar with this most recent iteration but looking at the recent call ups on Wikipedia it just takes a little bit of creativity to put together something to be reckoned with. It all comes down to the management and the decisions of whoever is building the team. To say england is lacking good pro footballers isn't true. |

However, no African country has ever reached the semis, and even Asia's been there with Turkey and South Korea. |
Although 97% of Turkey is in Asia, it's counted to Europe for football.
I hope there will be some unexpected surprises.
Belgium has a great team, but now it's time to really show it. |

I was being facetious. After all, they seemed okay with being bitches at Men's Hockey during the Olympics. :gsmile: |
