Went ice skating with friends. Terrific company, terrible rink. I skated so much my left foot is bleeding. Can't way to go back :D

| This weekend has turned into quite the session. I even managed to squeeze in the new Star Wars film amidst all the debauchery. |

Without getting into spoilers, what did you think, overall? |

| I did enjoy it, but I'm not sure it's actually any good. Better than The Force Awakens, but not as good as Rogue One, and certainly not the originals. Some really cheesy Disney moments in there. |

That seems to be the majority of what I am reading. My inner child/nerd will watch it anyway, as soon as the crowds die down. |

You know what the weird bit about Star Wars is?
If you're a jock, and you don't know much about Star Wars, I don't think nerds mind. They usually think it's just jocks being jocks. But, if they assume you're one of their lot, and you say you didn't really get into it in spite of a couple of attempts in the 90s... nerds seem to get pretty worked up or extremely confused.
I mean, the whole thing is probably 18 hours long by now, and I'm hopelessly hyperactive. Even Richard Wagner would probably think that's a bit too much :p |

yeah :( just got back. i thought it was . was totally disinterested for almost the whole thing. kylo just isn't menacing enough, and im not invested in any of the new heroes. except for maybe rey, but that might just be because she's pretty.
like the prequels, i get the feeling some of the more interesting stories occur off-screen (or in 5-second flashbacks). luke and the temple for example, deserved way more time than the casino bollocks. lucas totally ruined the kenobi anakin arc; i would've liked if johnson would've spent more time on luke losing kylo.
here's hoping disney's purchase of fox enables them to release re-mastered originals without all the special edition e. |

Just download the Despecialized Editions. Well worth the hassle.
I wasn't in the sharpest frame of mind yesterday, but having reflected on it, I'd say the word for The Last Jedi is "over-cooked". Bloated, perhaps. There were so many characters and so many speeches and so many lessons learned. It came to a perfectly decent climax and then went on for another thirty minutes. You could have stripped out one of the subplots entirely and not really lost anything. I didn't get actively annoyed by it, and it was fun in places, but I think I've stopped caring by now. It doesn't have much to do with the thing I remember from childhood anymore. |

Who cares about Star Wars? Tell us about Terry Francis! |

He wasn't that good, actually. Very surprised. He played for three hours but never really got out of third gear. There'd be moments where he'd play a couple of bangers and I thought he was finally going to blow it up, but then he'd reel it back in. I couldn't figure out why. I saw him play in a bar back in the summer and he absolutely smashed it, so why keep it so low key in a club? The residents had left the dancefloor rocking as well.
Still, we ended up meeting a bunch of cool people in their 40s and went to a great after party at this amazing old Victorian house. It was like something from a Charles Dickens novel, complete with resplendent Christmas tree. |
