I don't think it was to do with the cancellation, they're following the books pretty closely. Basically, the protomolecule structure/ring leaving Venus and flying out into the solar system was right at the end of one book, and then at the start of the next book it jumps ahead with an explanation at the start of what's happened. It just felt a bit out of place being in the middle of the season like that. Overall it was a good season, I thought.

a buffy reboot was announced today, too. while i expect it will be i am intrigued to see if 20 years' evolution in TV may make it better in some ways.
