Once in a while I dicover a great old track made by an artist under an alias. This time, it is "Magnetic North" by "Liquid Art" (Chris Cowie)

Nice find, sound-wise it sounds similar to another track, but like often I don't know were to start looking for it.

Something De Niro perhaps? "Mind of man" being famous'ish, of course.

Although I'd say that's nowhere near as exciting as the track Salegon posted. Must have either failed to appreciate it in the past or never encountered it - raving in my chair!

I'm not 100% sure, but I would say most likely it was "Deniro - State of Mind" which I happen to have posted in the "Fan of 2000-" thread today lol.

Üüps that's indeed what I had in mind. Not sure how I wrote Mind of Man as I didn't even remember its existence until I just read my own post.

Cowie knew how to do music that has often stood the test of time rather well.

Damn, that "Magnetic North" is a good one. Had never heard it before.

One of my favorites by Cowie, a deep progressive breaks cut signed to Propulsion Records from '05. I have it on vinyl too sounds fantastic.

I've known about this tune for a while and knew it was on his label, but I never realised it was Cowie himself. A very underrated producer when you look at the sheer volume of good tunes he's made.

One of my favorite producers for sure. Probably not too hidden, but liked the Vegas Soul album.

Hmmm underrated? That's a tough one. I think he was very well received amongst DJ's and producers in the mid to late 90's when Hook and Bellboy were peaking. He basically bridged a lot of the progressive guys with the harder, trancier guys (Christopher Lawrence, PVD, Markus Schulz). By all accounts he was very well recognized for that.

Chris was never really a DJ's DJ in the sense that his sets would be mind blowing or something out of the ordinary. His essential mix for example was very good but really, was limited to songs from his labels and little else. You could argue he really only did that EM to promote the lesser known tracks that were'nt produced by Transa or X-Cabs. His real forte was being head of a label and recognizing what tracks would suit the label well. Hook had a cult like following for a while and he knew that. I remember seeing him being interviewed and mentioning he had co-produced a track and purposely released it on another label claiming it would be "too big" for hook. Some would interpret that as being a dick but really, he knows that track would have never come across to hook followers so why allow it to only briefly see the light of day before being thrown into the archives? He is truly a great mind when it came to understanding his products limitations.
