Did they accidentally book him instead of Martin and nobody was brave enough to admit it?
Meanwhile, at the same festival:

lol that is actually pretty hilarious, creative marketing for you..
martin roth would have been cool , i alway's subscribed to his style of progressive house....
but i think these concerts have become so much about ....elaborate presentations...that random surprise guest are a thing now..
during a segment of armins set he also brought out fellow dutch dj's lucas & steve to premiere a new song, and i don't know those type of things are cool to build excitement , but if im looking to get lost in the music i don't necessarily like interruptions, but maybe other people do.

The loudness on a lot of this commercial EDM stuff is absolutely insane, much of it has only 3-4db of dynamic range. It's like listening to someone operating a jackhammer.
Scoops
Diamond Dave is a few 8 balls deep

listened to his dj mag pool party set a little earlier, and it was very similar to this set, in terms of big room anthems, but he did mix it up a bit with some slower bpm tunes from his radio show..
one thing i noticed a lot of dj's incorporating lately is using a mic and engaging with the crowd...almost being their own hype-men in a sense
didn't use to see that before.

So the music they play these days is so bad, they have to personally try to cheer/motivate/order the crowd to get excited for it?
(half joking, maybe)

Haha there is some truth there
It also might be a pursuit at making their sets more personal
For instance saying "hello Cleveland!"
Tells the audience I know I'm in this city tonight, and I'm enthusiastic about it !

That has always felt hollow to me, even from live bands. Play like you're happy to be here and we'll know it.
