we had an end of decade thread, but, what are some of your favourite songs, albums, parties, moments of the last year?

2019 was a weird one musically for me, i checked out 2 years worth of music from my cart and most of my favourites came from '18 and '17.

For lack there of 2 of 2019 picks:

seems many people prefer the remix, not me.

well my second track was from the end of 2018, darn.

favourite moment of the year was not music related but... raptors winning will be remembered forever

I've mostly listened to albums this year. Here's a few I thorougly enjoyed:

Stenny - Upsurge
RX-101 - Dopamine
Shed - Oderbruch
Barker - Utility
Calibre - Planet Hearth

In terms of partying, It's been a pretty quiet year. I'm 37 and one night of partying takes two - to three days to recover from.

Needles to say I'm rather picky at this stage. I did however, go to Berlin in April to see D:Bridge & Instramental at Griessmuhle. I had a great night. Stayed until 10 in the morning, which is pretty rare these days. Went to a few other parties but nothing really worth mentioning.

Other than that, It's been a pretty good year. No complaints really.
Scoops
top 10 of 2019

1. Maceo Plex - When The Lights Are Out
2. CamelPhat, Cristoph - Breathe (Eric Prydz rmx)
3. Pete Lazonby - Sacred Cycles (Beyer/Skils/Giordani rmx)
4. Genix - Open Your Eyes
5. Dosem - Not Leaving
6. Nicolas Rada - Gravity
7. DSF - Vision
8. Eli & Fur - Coming Back
9. Grum - Stay
10. Eelke Kleijn - Lost Souls (Nora En Pure rmx)

2019 was def a lowkey year for my partying. Reserving myself for some good ones for 2020. Saw Gorgon City a few weeks ago, really enjoyed what they played

I think I attended fewer parties in 2019 than in the past few years. Will definitely attend fewer in 2020. My favorites were:

Ricardo B2B Zip at CDV for Mayday (and all the other street parties). What a weekend that was. I was so happy to get in :toocool:

Hernan Cattaneo & Nick Warren at Bolivar Beach Bar in Athens. A group of old friends reuniting along with the great music played and general layout/vibe of the space made this really special. Plus we conceived on this weekend :)

I used to be a loner on the dance floor and loved it, but I've grown to enjoy hanging with a good group of friends. I still like going on my own, especially when the event calls for it, but I appreciate partying with people I know who like the music a lot more than ever before. I guess I just didn't know many (cool) people floating in and out of the scene until recently. That summarizes my 2019, I think. Except for the solo trip to Berlin, I haven't enjoyed a party as much unless a friend was there to enjoy it with me.

This release from that list is so damn good: The Undivided Five: A Winged Victory For The Sullen. Bought the LP right after the first listen. Thanks again!

A few other LPs I like from 2019 that I didn't mention in the end of decade thread:

Boreal Massif: We All Have An Impact
Jonny Nash: Make A Wilderness
Above & Beyond: Flow State
Warmth: Parallel Inflection
John Shima: The Lonely Machine
Conforce: Dawn Chorus
Andres: Andres IV

A few EPs:

DJ Python: Derretirse
Kosh: Keep Hope Alive
Donato Dozzy: Variations
Marc Brauner: Sad But Ambitious
Volen Sentir: Fatoumata
Laurent Garnier: Feelin Good
Barut: Opoli
Lone: Not Seeing Is A Flower
Lucas Rossi: Systematic

Favorite repress of 2019:

Daso: Meine Idee (thank you!!!)

I made a deliberate decision to cut down on the amount of partying I did last year. I think I only did 5-6 “big” nights and I made sure I saw high calibre DJs each time:

Sasha & Digweed
Carl Cox
Hernan Cattaneo
Fort Romeau
Michael Mayer
Andrew Weatherall

Tune-wise it was as good as ever. I never have any trouble filling my Beatport crate these days.

Top Notch decisions from top to bottom. Andrew Weatherall is someone that I would like to see. I think the only way to catch him is to see him somewhere in England/GB. It doesn't seem like he travels a lot.

I also want to hear Weatherall. He's played at a nearby club called Phonox a few times recently - a simple space in Brixton that elicits a good vibe - but that's with Sean Johnston as part of A Love From Outer Space. I'm sure that would be cool, but I'd prefer to hear him for the first time on his own.

I'm surprised you went to see Cox. Was it at a smaller venue? I saw him a few years ago and there were too many "oh yes oh yeses" for my liking.
SYSTEM-J
ALFOS nights are good, but Weatherall is best on his own. He's the best DJ in the world, for me. He ticks every box.

Cox played at a venue in Leeds called Church, which is literally a medieval church turned into a club. The main room is probably about 1000-1500 capacity, so it was ideal size venue to see him. And while I could certainly live without his microphone antics, he absolutely smashed the place to bits.

As as dancefloor techno has been (as it's been the last couple of years, although I think it's getting better), it's been very good year for albums! Probably the best in a very long time.

A few favorites that haven't been mentioned...

Probably my favorite release of the year, pure meditation on sound:

DeepChord goes 140+ BPM:

Some really nice first wave / early UK techno lushness from Function:

Some really catchy, yet experimental modular noodling:

Love the new Benoit Pioulard that quiety slipped out in december, especially track 1:

Plus Telefon Tel Aviv, HTRK, Steve Hauschildt and many more...
LoveHate
avicii featuring aloe blacc - SOS
denis kenzo featuring sveta b - reasons cry
danny howard feat. eli & fur - if you were
Leftwing : Kody - I Feel It
jay lumen -rave me

it was a weird year for me, but i think these five songs defined most of it .....

i am probably missing a few but yeah
