It does cost to run a forum - however - it is peanuts in comparison to what it used to be. When TA was at its peak, it was over $500USD/month in server/bandwidth fees. It was really outrageous how expensive dedicated servers were then... and large forums require a lot of memory. That was crazy expensive. These days, you could run a basic forum between $10-$50/month... assuming a not so busy forum (<100 users online).
Security issues? :stongue: Trancefix is running vbulletin 4.2.3 (2014) which is end of life but easily upgradable. TA is running a version from a decade earlier (with a bunch of custom code). Though, in all likelihood, their version probably has more exploitable bugs. |
