I've been having the weirdest e-mail problem recently.
Not everyone knows this, but you can add (or remove) dots from e-mail accounts and they'll be sent to the same person. So [email protected][/email] and [email][email protected] are essentially directed to the same address. That's how my problems began.
I've had my e-mail account for 16 years now, and I've always added a dot for legibility. Someone by the name "Marcus Knox" is now using my e-mail account minus the dot to sign up on random services, and it's bloody annoying.
The first time it happened, I received a message from PayPal and thought it was a phishing attempt, until I caught the mistake. I contacted Paypal and we're now in a stalemate, because I receive all mail meant to Marcus Knox, but I can't access the account because the 2-step verification thingy is linked to his mobile. He also added a Texas address, which is odd if he's got any malicious intent and it's his actual address.
This morning I woke up with him registering a Dropbox account. I quickly changed the password and claimed it as my own. There was nothing there but what seems to be a hip hop song... Which makes me even more confused because it's not like there's anything illegal in there.
Why would you create accounts with someone else's e-mail? |
