Here we go!

Hopefully combined with the news from Moderna, the two vaccines can provide use to different groups. From what I gather, Pfizer has already produced a ton of these vaccines. I would imagine that they were confident enough in the vaccine to give the order to ramp up production before the final results were in. Which is ballsy.

I would think that since Pfizer's vaccine requires supercooling it can be given to healthcare workers and scientists first since they already have that equipment available. Moderna, which doesn't require supercooling, can more likely be distributed to the rest of the country/world.

I'm a little concerned about the size of the test group, only 90 infections with the placebo out of 15,000, and in the other group only 5. I can see how those still count as worthy statistics but the sample size raises an eyebrow for me.

Yeah I will not be getting any vaccine till it's been in the population long enough/distributed to enough people to have more data about efficacy, side effects, etc.

I am content to carry on as I have been for at least 2, maybe 3 years.

Just read a little blurb saying how the usual safety tests are being pypassed by Pfizer to get their vaccine pushed through. Nope, I'll wait thanks!

Since I've had it and recovered from it, I should have no need for a vaccine for the near future eitherway. I'm expecting a lot of kickback towards it from the general public though, because of the speed in which it's been developed.

Yeah, plus the microchips. Lolololol.

Can the vaccine make you gay?

I'm definitely not going to be the first in line to get it. I'll probably wait until the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine will be ready, which will hopefully be Q1 or Q2 2021.

Everything back to normal with you, Jack?

One of the commenters on Ars was a participant. Below is his/her reply to someone who asked about potential safety issues/concerns:

"The mRNA technique causes the body's cells to produce a protein that exemplifies the virus for the immune system. This is the same effect as attenuated live virus vaccines that have been used for decades. The difference is that the isolated mRNA codes only for the target protein, and doesn't otherwise have any means to reproduce, generate a functional virus particle, or persist in the body. For the contrast case, oral polio vaccines using attenuated live virus do sometimes produce real infections, and sometimes those mutate into strains that cause disease. So, broadly, this would be expected to have a comparable or better long-term safety profile than historical vaccines.

The weird cases to consider are things like reproductive effects and coincident active infection with retroviruses that have RNA reverse transcriptase such as HIV.

The study actually counseled participants to take effective contraceptive measures within the timeframe that the vaccine could persist in the body. We won't know about teratogenic effects for quite a while yet. If I had to guess, though, it would cause temporary infertility on the order of months if any gametes happened to pick up the vaccine particles, express the protein, and hence evoke an immune response."

I see many people below 50 years of age posting not wanting to be the first in line, but why do you even think you could be first in line?

Is very likely millions of people will be getting the vaccine earlier then we anyways.
