Nashville, TN Christmas bombing

This is nuts. https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/25/us/n...sion/index.html
I'm a couple of hours away from Nashville...this is all very surreal. This is not something you associate with life in TN.
There was an automated warning in a robotic female voice playing from an RV for at least 15 minutes stating the area had to be evacuated, just before the explosion.
I don't have any sources other than "people are saying" and "I heard on FB," but several are theorizing that a Trump supporter or group of supporters are attempting to weave events into a state of national emergency and/or martial law in order to stop the ratification of the electoral college voting. Again, that's just all he said, she said hyperbole at this point, and I can't stress that enough. But, this being 2020, I hate to say that nothing would surprise me, including this.
But, assuming that line of reasoning pans out, I cannot believe we've come to that sort of behavior in my country. Risking the lives of fellow citizens just to keep a person and/or party in office.
It was near an AT&T transmission and switching center, so maybe someone was just pissed about their Direct TV bill going on. Anyway, this is NOT what I would have expected out of my local news today. |

| I know it's serious, but I can't help but laugh at headlines reading something like "Christmas Explosion". A little Holiday Special. |

In the Murf visiting the inlaws atm and this story is ruining my chance at watching any NBA Christmas games today
But yeah definitely creepy and weird . The good thing is that very few people were hurt and now it's up to all of us to determine what their motive was. Hurt cops? Ruin Christmas? It certainly wasn't to kill people because otherwise they wouldn't have set off ample warnings and detonated it at 6:30 in the morning by empty bars. Just a strange situation all around. |

| Being a Louisville native, I don't have any allegiance to a pro basketball team. I just enjoy watching and following players. Been a LeBron guy since like 08 though, so I usually root for his teams although I'm typically impartial. Kinda easy for me to pick NBA villains though, this whole Kawhi saga post-SA has been an absolute cluster and he's getting harder to root for. He's got an interesting game but his personality and apparent lack of a relationship with his teammates leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Was mad at KD for going to Golden State and basically ruining parity for 2 years, but I'm fine with him on Brooklyn. Him and Kyrie are nuts together, they might be finals bound. |

Apologies for hijacking thread OP!
Kawhi went from superhero to super villain. In TO they kept it under wraps in regards to load management and now it’s next level with LAC(late to practice, implementing his own schedule, etc). Very upset they didn’t offer Ibaka more than 1yr, my fav player on raps. BKN a playoff team without KD and Kyrie, add them in and I agree they are probably the favourite out of east. My concern for them is none of their players are great defenders, caveat being KD maybe the best player in the NBA atm. In regards to LeBron, I usually root against him, but do acknowledge his greatness. |

No worries, hijack away! It's good to see people just talking in the COR. I swear this sounds exactly like something out of a Mr. Robot episode, where the Dark Army and White Rose blow up a telecom switching facility to force a reroute of traffic through infrastructure they control or can tap.
Unless someone did in fact die in the RV (tissue has been found near the blast site, but testing has yet to confirm its exact nature), then a lot of planning went into this. Someone had to create and test: a PA system; a timer to countdown and sync with both the announcement and the explosion; a timer and detonator for the bomb. It also appears the morning of December 25th was selected for lower pedestrian volume. I've been down on 2nd Ave many times, and that place is packed on weekend nights, COVID notwithstanding.
I know the lack of knowledge right now leads to the term "an act of terrorism" being used, and I get that. Because by definition the act is terrifying and creates a general feeling of such in the residents of the area. But, to me, this has none of the hallmarks of what I would call "international terrorism" or "radical/religious terrorism" that we, in this nation, have focused on since 9/11. I think if this were such an event, this RV would have exploded outside a packed bar/music venue on a busy night, and we'd see the typical "Bin Laden holding up one finger, lecturing about the great Satanic west" videos all over YouTube.
But what's the motive here? A "professional" (if you will) warning/PA system is set up to count down and clearly and articulately tell people exactly what is going to happen and when. A day/time with little/no pedestrian traffic is selected.
If the target was the AT&T switching facility, why? Did someone want to force a reroute of traffic through nodes they control? Did someone just dislike AT&T that much? Was someone pissed about AT&Ts handling of Direct TV and finally got fed up with the price hikes?
I'm sure we'll know soon enough who was involved and why, but this one is, in the meantime, a real head scratcher. The conspiracy theory nuts are all over that YT video comments section, of course. It's the "Trump people," no it's the "Biden people," no it's BLM, no it's Antifa, no it's Proud Boys. I swear to Christ, this country is so ignorantly and dangerously divided right now. It's prime for another civil war. All it would take are the right politicians and talking heads in place to incite the base on each side. I cannot believe this is my country. |

Person of interest identified, but is believed to have died in the explosion: https://www.newschannel5.com/news/c...shville-bombing
So apparently some 63 year old guy decided to off himself by blowing up his RV on Second Ave on Christmas morning? That's nuts. Just stick a pistol in your mouth, or something. Heysus Chreestos, people. |

| It's still a developing story, and I haven't heard anything really new or revelatory today. But the fact that they are not looking for any other individuals or devices tells me they are confident it was just the one older guy. Very, very strange way to take oneself out. Hopefully friends or family will know something, or perhaps he left behind evidence explaining his choices. But all of the agencies involved will make sure their legal ducks are in a nice, neat row before they give their official stories. |
