Wuddup Everyone,

Just curious how many of you guys/gals are still on social media? Maybe just a lurker on social media?

I had deactivated both my IG and FB accounts back in 2016. I was tired of seeing all the crap coming through my feeds. I actually reactivated earlier this year with the passing of a good friend, old boss and mentor due to COVID-19 complications. I thought to myself that staying connected with old friends/family was important enough to deal with all the I was seeing back then.

Well, apparently the had gotten even more horrid since I left. I found myself unfriending/unfollowing people that were just acquaintances that I didn't necessarily agree with. The hard ones are actual friends and family though. It's bit tougher for me to unfriend those folks because they simply are: friends and family.

So I deactivated FB again. It was just too much so I said this place. I'm keeping IG though. I like that people are less vocal on there (but they do their weird on the stories though). Plus it's a good source (for now) to follow things I like such as music, sports (go raiders), food and so forth.

I also lurk on Reddit. Just the popular stuff that appears on the homepage and news.

Anyways, figured I'd like to hear from my only other online social forum.

(happy Friday)

Yeah, OrangestO. We ought to inform social services of child neglect. How dare this parent use a computer for their own entertainment. It's beyond appalling.

I mainly use Twitter nowadays. I still have FB, but maybe 5% of my friends post anything there, my feed is mostly filled with events and vacant jobs, and that's really all it is to me now; an opportunity for an event or a job to catch my attention. Oh, and I've noticed the only posts by actual people I've seen in the past week or so on FB have been by COVID-denialists and antivaxx people I acquainted a decade or so ago. I hope they'll eventually make the place a cesspit that'll be removed from the web altogether.

But Twitter on the other hand.. Man, the place is so vibrant with so much stupidity, including my own, that you really want to be on there. The 280 characters per message limit makes the whole thing so much more hilarious than it would be without it. I can honestly say I've learned a great number of things about human interaction on Twitter. It's like 280 is some scientifically proven number of characters that, when used to convey an opinion of almost anything, will yield a maximum amount of misunderstanding among the readers.

Not surprised. They do attract a demographic after all. You seem their type.
JEO
Let me guess.. You were on there too, but you deleted most of your posts and left dramatically?

I bet you like having sex with socks on and the lights off.

I bet you X and Y without actually referring to anything anyone knows about you, mr. Potassium Chloride.

I only have FB, but deleted basically everyone who wasn't at our wedding. I do have other friends and TAs, but the group is very small. I also have the FBPurity extension on my browser which filters out SO much of the brutal that I can't stand about FB.

Still use Facebook to keep in touch with people I know abroad. Click the 'Unfollow' button if any of them start spouting nonsense. Keeps for a nice, tidy timeline for the most part (but what's with this echo?).

Use Twitter mostly for promotion and to keep tabs on other content creators I follow. Can still get ridiculously messy with the drama, but since I keep my engagement minimal, I mostly just sit back and watch all the bickering from afar.

Everything else feels like too much effort for too little worth.
