Opinions on djmag's #1...DJ Tiesto (pg. 2)

On popularity, no doubt that Tiesto would've gotten it. Touring with Moby and that CNN interview really helped him gain some votes. Did he deserve it? Well, he worked hard...accomplished a lot in the past (got me into the music)...but in 2002, other garnering lots of attention (from Dutch Dimension, Area:2), he did all.
PvD should do a massive US tour, so he can finally claim that number 1 spot like he deserves. But yeah, this list is pure popularity...there's no way in hell that DJ's like Dave Seaman and Nick Warren should be placed in the 30's, while the likes of Judge Jules, Paul Oakenfold, Corsten or even the good trance DJ's like AvB are in the top 10.
Oh man, and don't even get me started on Corsten being in the top 10.... |

Well I personally like Tiesto's style. Most of his sets are blissful and listening to them...I rarely find myself forwarding thru them. There are some sets which I personally found it hard to believe that Tiesto was behind it. I think it was deserved because of his contributions to the trance scene, whether it be from producing tracks...remixing them to controlling massive crowds(like Gatecrashers@NEC spring 2002). I was able to witness this set...absolutely unbelieveable...I was in awe during his whole set. I, for one, am looking forward to his Toronto visit December 14th..regardless of his mixing styles becoming sloppy.
There are other many great DJs(marco v's position I was a bit disappointed), but I think Tiesto stands out...for his enormous contribution...especially for his amazing remixes/producing to go along with being a DJ |

I don't know.. I don't think Armin deserves #1 spot.
There is nothing unique or special about him. He always plays a bunch of good new tracks, but I think something is missing about him that must be there to be #1. Whenever I hear him live I feel that the order of his tracks is somewhat random. There is no journey like there is with Tiesto(when he is at his top). |
thank you for putting it into words.. exactly my thoughts on the matter..

| yep....when he's at the top, his track selections are unique...his style is uncomparable. I certainly hope this will happen during his visit to Toronto....im looking forward to this :eyespop: |

| Well he's number one , and there is nothing we can do about it. But that dont mean that he's number one with everyone, so if you dont like him, hey, who said you have to listen to him. |

Some of you guys really piss me off.
"It's subjective wah wah....it's a popularity contest". For FU*K SAKE....OF COURSE IT IS! It was a popularity contest when Sasha and Digweed and Oakey were winning the damn thing.
Would you rather have a bunch of random Dj's selecting the winner...because then all you would get is ass-kissing like the Oscars and sports awards and MTV awards and such. The FANS were allowed to vote...thousands of fans...there were no restrictions on who could vote at all.....any damn fan of music could vote.
Tiesto won...that means most people think he is the best Dj in the world. Maybe he isn't the best mixer in the world, but his sets make people happier than any other DJ. Denzel Washington did NOT deserve the Oscar for Best Actor for TRAINING DAY...he won because he has had so many great peformances that it was time for him to win.
Same with Tiesto here....perhaps Tiesto's year wasn't as great in 2002 but he has been NUMBER ONE since 1999. All the Magiks, the ISOS...when he was dropping those, stupid Oakey, Sasha and Digweed were winning. Now THAT is not fair.
So quit your damn whining and accept that right now, Tiesto is the world's favourite. I love Armin but he is just way too damn young and has not been around long enough to win over Tiesto. His time will come. |

DjSmitty, I agree with most of what you said, but cool it boy. This is a forum for discussion, people have the right to discuss and question whatever they want.
Durafei, I like Brunette totally agree with you on AVB. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy his sets, but haven't thought the two I heard were anything particularly inspiring. He is a great guy, good tracks, and gets you in the mood, but I don't think his sets merit a top 10 rank, though I realize many TA's will be pissed off to hear that.
Tiesto I don't think deserved #1 this year, but like DJ Smitty said, he's probably earned it over time and a couple of his sets were big influences on getting me into the music.
Now, of course we all have different tastes, but who says only the top 10 are good DJ's??? For god sake, top 100 IN THE WORLD is pretty damn good, so be happy for your fav DJ if he\she made it. |

Picotto should be up there, just becasue he changed into a kinda techno purist. I cant believe they dropped him outta top ten. I dont mind Tiesto number one. He's always been a premiere dj in my eyes so he's deserving. AVB BLAH! dont like his boring trance.
Glad that Joy Kitikonti made the list.
Picotto is god for me :D he doesnt need a number 1 beside his name to convince me that he is the greatest! PERIOD.
by the looks of it the list was compiled by popularity. not originality and style! Sell more records, your going to be up there.
