formatting what? your hard drive for a fresh install of Win XP? It's rather simple. Let me know if this is what you are trying to do...

Is this a new drive?
If so...
Install the drive. Set the BIOS to "Auto-Detect".
Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM and restart the system.
Follow on-screen prompts. At the "create partition" screen, highlight the drive.
Press "Enter" to set-up Windows XP
Or, if you want FAT32 (32 Gig max)
Press "C" to create a partition
Finish the rest of the installation.
If you boot from the XP CD, the installation wizard should prompt you to format with NTFS; you could do it from there.
It'll format, reboot and then proceed with the OS installation... |

Boot up with the XP CD...
During the Partitioning Screen, choose to format the drive to NTFS.
You should then be prompted to do a format; do the FULL format.
That'll take care of anything on your old drive and give a fresh new OS... :D |
