George Acosta "1st Anniversary Mix" - anyone have any insight on this disc?

hello TranceAddicts, good to find a forum like this still kicking about these days.

one of my hobbies is going through the bins at the record shop finding new and interesting CDs. this weekend I picked up a handful of new discs, including a 2CD chill out comp titled "The Late Night Mix". when I got home and pulled off the wrap, I discovered that only the first CD was in the case and the second was instead a disc labeled "Serious Music For Serious People - 1st Anniversary Mix". it credits a George "Grooveman" Acosta as the producer on it and has a matrix stamped as though it were an official release, but I have been unable to find any concrete info on this release.

it appears to be a CD filled with some pretty classic trance tunes, there's a Binary Finary 1998 mix on here and some other bangers I vaguely recall from the time. through some Google-fu, it looks like this might be a performance by Cuban DJ George Acosta from a Miami Beach club called the Shadow Lounge from sometime around the turn of the millennium. it looks like the DJ uploaded the set to his Mixcloud page , but I can't find any other real info about this disc.

I'm just wondering if there are any sages here who might know a little more about this release, what it was for, where it came from, etc. please forgive me if this is not the right forum to post in - it didn't feel much like an Unknown Track request so I wasn't sure if I should post this in there or not.

here's a photo of the disc itself, if it helps:

thanks for any insight anyone might be able to share - I've thoroughly enjoyed this mix after listening to it. I love when these happy little accidents occur while dumpster diving for discs like this...

Apparently Shadow Lounge in Miami had Acosta do this mix to celebrate its first anniversary, but whether it was sold at the premises or given away to clubbers I don't know. Looks like there isn't much mention of it on the internets. There's another mix for the second anniversary here: https://www.mixcloud.com/GeorgeAcos...anniversary-cd/. I believe they had two discs commissioned for the second and third anniversaries each, for which Dave Ralph and Taucher did mixes. Taucher's is mentioned in the bio here https://www.protonradio.com/artists/2639/taucher/mixes); Dave Ralph's is apparently here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wND85ci2VcQ).
It looks like "serious music for serious people" was a slogan used by Shadow Lounge advertising themselves (see the artwork https://www.clubflyers.com/graphic-...ow-lounge/1548/).

wow, this is awesome info, thanks so much! I really love that poster, and that solves the mystery of the serious music slogan. the Taucher stuff certainly seems in line with the tracks on the disc - I spent the morning ID'ing all of them. there's a Taucher remix of Blank & Jones "Flying To The Moon" as well as a remix he did of Ayla on there.

I like one of the comments on that 2nd Anniversary youtube link: "Shadow lounge was the Mecca in Miami then. George Acosta had it going then." this makes me feel as if I've stumbled into a much-beloved memory of the Miami Beach club scene. how it ended up in a dusty bin way up in the northeast, we'll never know....but whoever owned this had good taste, that's for sure
