Is this realy prog trance??
View this Thread in Original format

Hi guys, I have come across this channel looking for some progressive trance :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMGc8vLprgg

But this sounds like electro dance or EDM, every tune sounds the same, has the same bass line and electro layers in every tune, absolutely awful. Is this what modern prog trance sounds like these days??

You just don't listen, do you? You've asked the same question about "progressive trance" three times now. There's a thread on this page compiling modern prog trance. It was literally the top thread in Music Discussion before you came in to supplant it with this inane question.

Progressive trance in 2023 is not Anjunadeep. It's not whatever dog mix you've found on YouTube, and it's not any of the other things you've asked either. Progressive trance is in the 90+ post long thread right in front of your ing eyes. Go click on that.

There is no need to be so rude, I just wanted to know why they label it as such. If you don't like the post, just ignore it, why be so rude.
SYSTEM-J
Because when I was polite and helpful, you ignored me. And when I spend time and effort sharing what I believe is good music in exactly the category you keep asking for, you ignore that as well. And I find being ignored rude. So at least this time you actually paid a modicum of attention.

People label dance music wrong all the time. This has been going on for literally decades. People take these terms and they make horrible, watered down commercial bastardisations of them. You've been registered on this forum for exactly 20 years, so you must have been listening to dance music for at least that long. Is this really the first time you've gone onto Youtube and seen a "BEST CHILL IBIZA HOUSE MIX 2019" or whatever, only to click on it and find a load of unlistenable drivel?

I know it is not nice to be ignored, but l didn't ignore you personally, I just didn't get the answer that I needed. Equally, I don't appreciate to be sworn at, as, I am sure, you would not either.

I've listened to trance since mid 90s but it has diversified a lot since then and is very ambigious. So, what sort of music is that, Is it electro dance/new trance/EDM from the youtube link that I'd provided?

Let's recap your recent forum activity here.

On May 4th you made a thread asking: "Hi, what is the difference between deep trance and progressive trance? Can you give me examples of any present DJs who play this type of music? Youtube links to tracks maybe?" Several people answered you, and I pointed you in the direction of the thread where we've been compiling modern prog trance.

https://tranceaddict.com/forums/sho...73&forumid=1&s=

You clearly didn't bother to read that thread at all, and in fact seem to have forgotten you even made it, because on August 1st you were back, asking the exact same question, a thread so redundant it was locked.

https://tranceaddict.com/forums/sho...05&forumid=1&s=

Not satisfied, you came back on September 1st and asked for recommendations of DJs playing progressive trance. This time it was Titanium who pointed you in the direction of the big thread we have going which is full of links to sets and DJs playing these style.

https://tranceaddict.com/forums/sho...19&forumid=1&s=

Now you're back again with your fourth progressive trance related query of the last six months. And again, you've been completely ignoring all the recommendations given to you and have instead found some terrible mix on Youtube and want us all to answer the burning question "Is this what modern prog trance sounds like these days??"

Can you start to see why I might be getting slightly frustrated with the same bloke coming back repeatedly, asking the same question over and over again and ignoring the answer he's been given several times? Like, what exactly do you want from these threads? If you don't like the kind of music in the big prog/trance reivival thread, then at least say that and perhaps give some examples of what you do like. Then we might actually have a discussion going on. As it stands, you are not engaging with anyone who replies to you. You're not even replying to your own threads. You are being rude, and I make no apologies for losing my temper and being rude in return.

Well, I don't come on here to offend anyone, but you clearly have temper issues if you think you can just kick off at people and start swearing at them. I'm sure you wouldn't like me or anyone else swearing at you like that. The question in this thread was meant to be asking to identify what type of music is played in that set from YouTube. If you wish to address it, that would be great.

The question you asked is literally the thread title: "Is this realy prog trance??" The answer is no, clearly. Asking me to put some specific genre tag onto a mix of music you hate is like asking for tasting notes on different strains of cat piss.

What this thread is really about is the same thing all your repetitive threads are about : "I'm looking for modern day progressive trance and I can't find any I like." Did you actually at any point click on the thread people keep pointing you towards? Did you not like the music in there? If not, why not, and what would be an example of "progressive trance" from the past you'd like to hear the modern equivalent of?

I'm more than willing to be helpful and constructive if you actually give me any kind of constructive interaction to work on.

I’m more of a trancey prog man myself.

That's good, what djs would you recommend?

I like Airwave and Solarstone tends to play more progressive trance these days, Guy J is quite good, too.

I was actually being slightly facetious to be honest.
Jack did make an effort to help and did indeed point you in the right direction.
He's definitely one of the most knowledgable minds when it comes to electronic music as a whole.
I can assure you, if you did give an example of a few tracks you did like in that particular thread he mentioned, furthermore what made the track special to you, he'd fire back a few suggestions in that vein.

That being said, I always associated the stuff Markus Schulz played around 05 to be in the 'trancey prog' mood.
Usually around 132bpm and laden with a lot of percussion and floaty melodies.
A few tracks I suggest to sum up the sound for me would be.

Niklas Harding - Ice Beach.
Tilt - The World Doesn't Know.
Basic Perspective - Small Step On The Other Side.

I do listen to Solarstone as I find he provides the broadest sense of the music I like on a weekly basis.

Guy J is someone I would personally label as more of a traditional 'progressive house' sound of the modern era. A lot more down tempo but stilll melodic at times.
