Jack Moss - Surface Tension [Progressive Trance]

High time for another two hours of modern day progressive trance, I reckon. As the '90s trance revival continues unabated, it's become a little bit disappointing to me how may people have immediately relapsed into the worst excesses of the genre, pumping out Alice Deejay style "Ibeefa" cheese with absolutely no lessons learned from last time. I wanted this mix to be a corrective, focusing very specifically on a harder, darker, more futuristic side of trance that builds up with lashings of acid and heavy percussion to really make you earn those moments of euphoria. You can be the judge of whether I succeeded.

k so this didnt end up being my cup of tea. I appreciate the flow and your sleuthing. Intro was nice. the only track I realllllly vibed with was Midtone - Pearl which is ironic because its the only track that really goes against the grain of the rest of the mix. I feel like im one of those people you're detesting, dont mind me.

You're all good. I've done a few mixes in this style with a more overtly ecstatic vibe, so I wanted to avoid repeating myself and do something different. If you want to hear me playing the same style but in a more feel-good vibe, try the live mix I posted at the end of March: https://tranceaddict.com/forums/sho...9&forumid=73&s=

I enjoyed this, and your other recent Dance Love Hub recording. Posting here because this thread deserves some love. Middle section was great, Vision Recall the standout track although I can't quite bring myself to shell out for the full release to get it. Overall maybe the set didn't peak quite as hard as I'd like at the end, but admittedly I don't mind a bit of the cheesier stuff that the likes of Maruwa stray into.

On balance I might have a slight preference for your DLH set, several of the tracks there were already favourites of mine and I particularly enjoyed the transition into Baldo - Ex Machina. More of this stuff very welcome.

I could ramble on longer about this scene, I'm delighted to see trance get the revolution - not evolution - it desperately needed. Personally I can take or, ideally, leave the inclusion of old records alongside this newer stuff, although absolutely everybody seems to be at it so it would be unfair to level that criticism at you. I'm sure they still go down well in a live set.

Only just seen this post - cheers for the thoughtful review. Funny that I left you a comment saying I'd have preferred a bigger finale to your mix and then see you gave me the exact same feedback.

It's funny that I had no plans even to record the DLH set, which is why the intro is missing. It came out as an extremely satisfying listen that was too good not to share. I always play better in front of a crowd. Having real people to vibe off makes DJing immeasurably easier, because they're guiding you on what to play next.

Probably for the best, as I recall

Anyway, took me far too long to review this mix

Ultimately the flow on this set is pretty much perfect, and is a great example of going in with pounding beats from the word go and keeping things building. I really like the fact that Gabriola - Worldwave gets blasted so early. I've been playing that right in the middle of my sets but to hear it as a tone setter here changed my perspective on the tune

I've listened to it a few times and I've always thought you keep a constant tone - third gear for the first half, fourth gear for the back half with a money shot at the very end (a horrendous mix ups of analogies)

If I skip through the set for Inso I can hear you're actually building it up bit by bit all the way through with increasingly heavy baselines as it goes through. It's subtle though and very well done

Absolutely love e the classic at the end too - not heard that one before but it blew the roof off after a perfect build up. Would very much love to hear a set like this from 00:00 - 02:00 before someone coming on and going a little harder and darker. Top work - many tunes nicked
