pvd getting repetetive ? (pg. 2)

oh get out of here... :happy2: we've already established that the only difference is a melody. words mean different things to different people. i always think of techno as anything seriously repetetive that uses all computer generated elements etc, nothing more specific.

in fact, why dont we go the american heritage dictionary for this one, just for fun :o -

techno: noun, Any of various styles of dance music characterized by electronic sounds and a high-energy, rhythmic beat.

maybe this should be a new thread... but i say that puts trance as a form of techno.

That's the problem right there. Americans can be a bit ignorant when it comes to classifying electronica.:tongue2

Anyway, back to the point of the post. People say Oakenfold and Tiesto have lost their touch because they change their styles too much, and now we're criticizing PVD for not changing enough. I guess some people will never be happy.

Trance has nothing to do with techno exept that they are both electronic genres. Name a techno track that sounds anything like a trance track, also how come many ppl love trance but do not like techno if they are the same thing?
Dmatrox
trance, techno, dance music, pretty much the same when you are talking generally. who gives a what a word means, if you trying to differentiate the difference between john digweed and james zabiela, then its probably more important to use more specific terms.

dont get me wrong, i can classify genres but when i say deep progressive house to just someone randomly, they arent going to know what i mean, its just easier to use a more general term like 'techno':D

oh ya, i think van dyk is using too much of the same sound, i said so in a post a while ago.

I think pvd is getting a bit lazy too. At least with all the same basslines his songs will mix well into each other :)

and

Where decibel08 said techno he meant what most other people call electronica. Personally I refer to everything in a general term as dance music. No need to start a genre war over it and go into specifics.

I know the discussion of "not techno but trance" would come up as soon as I read the post :o

Dance Music........Electronica.........whatever, they all came from the same place

Back to the topic: Pvd certainly uses the same bassline over and over.............for me I get bored with Pvd's liveset after I listen to it a couple times. Don't get wrong........Pvd is damn good but it is kinda repetitive in some way. Maybe that's the reason why people dig his stuff becasue they like that same bassline :)
DJ_Lord
so what? he still rules! :D
jdat
pvd is not repitious , he just goes through cycles !

I agree with you guys about the basslines sounding the same,,, but honestly... that's why I keep buying his records and playing them out. The thing that I think seperates PvD from other trance producers these days is his consitency. Although it would be nice to hear something a bit diffrent from him,,, I'm pretty happy with the stuff he's been releasing ;-)

anyone else think the pvd's tracks are starting to get a bit repetetive? granted, techno in general is a repetitive beast, but the beat and bassline of almost all pvd's recent tracks are exactly the same. he definitely has a signiature style but i think he could use a hint of variety these days.

any thoughts? how could he make his stuff a little less formulaic?

I agree. PvD is my favorite and all, but his recent production work doesn't show as much creativity as I'd like. Perhaps he has some quality tracks in progress since it's been a while since we've seen any actual releases from him. I mean what was his last, Columbia? That was over a year ago.

DuMonde TrAnCeR
as one great producer said to me:

"if you keep it the same, everybody complains, if you change it,everybody complains, you cant win"

nuff said.

Not all his tracks sound the same, some of them are a lot differrent than others.

However I'm not saying he dont use the same basslines in tunes, he does and for some it works well and for others it dont sound to good :S But most people that like PvD like his basslines and melodies so they dont care.

And if PvD was to go and make a totally new sounding track which was so differrent that no-one liked, people would say he was crap and jumping on bandwagons etc. Like what happens when oakey tries new stuff.

so...bah! I dont fecking care :p
