I don't know much about trance

Hi. this is my first post here at TranceAddict. um... I've been listening to trance for I guess... a year or so now (been going to this site for a month) and i'm really into it now. Well.. I live in California, and um.. i guess you could say californians play a lot of DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) and there's a lot of great tunes on DDR, with all kinds of genres like eurobeat, europop.. um.. a lotta techno.. and happy hardcore stuff. On the more recent mixes (6th and 7th) trance songs began appearing, like somewhere over the rainbow (original cosmic gate mix), so deep (perfect sphere remix) and yada yada yada... That's basically how i got into trance. um, btw, the DDR games get a lot of their music from this japanese cd series called 'dancemania'. not sure if you guys know about this particular series, but they basically have hits from europe and nonstop mix them onto a cd. Besides the regular dancemania series, they also have speed (happy hardcore) cds as well as a few trance ones. so i gave the trance ones a shot and absolutely loved them. Then i listened to cosmic gate's rhythm and drums cd as well as their no more sleep album. Great stuff :D

And um.. well... i've just been getting songs now off winmx and that's all i've been doing lately until I bumped into your site. Once i came here i realized i knew nothing about trance lol. I mean.. before of course i knew that a lot of this stuff comes from europe, but gosh. You guys that have been listening to this stuff for 10 years now just have so much more of a knowledge base about it (the people here listen mostly to hip hop/rock so... i don't have any 'old school' trancers that i could ask q's). So i guess what i'm here to say.. is.. well, what should i know about trance that average n00bs don't but should?

oh yes, lol.. and before i forget.. what is 'cheese' :conf: from context i can tell it's something well.. corny and i guess cheesy (hence the name) but i'd like a more concrete definition please :D

(if you guys needa know my style of trance, here are a few songs i'm into atm [remember these might be kind of old]. feel free to give me suggestions!)

Hi man, welcome to the trance world!
hehe, not everybody here are expert in trance...i'm not...
but what I can tell you is that going thru these forums, d/l stuff you see, and you will developed your own style, cause it's way larger than it appears....
the first advice i can give you, is to register to direct connect
(go in the search link at the top right of the screen)
there you can d/l every techno stuff you like...
cause elsewhere, there's not so much good stuff...
then as I said, d/l as much music as you can, one good way is to d/l dj sets, and then in the tracjlist section, you go see the title of the tunes you like....
there's many ways of getting started , and on TA, you've got the best one!
have fun here!:D :D

Hehe, welcome man.

I've myself been hooked on trance for only around 1 year now.
I see that your playlist consists mostly of a hard stuff -- funilly enough, in the beginning, hard was the coolest part of trance for me, but later on I switched myself to a softer and more melodic stuff, so chances are that this will happen to you too. :)

So take your time and just keep listening to this great music -- I'm sure that you'll experience a lot of great things with it.

Welcome, it must be new members month on ta i think.

This is how i would define cheese. Cheesy tracks have really simple synths that are easy to remember and catchy, sort of like the synths in ferry corstens punk or tiestos flight 643. Sometimes they have really cheesy vocals, most often about love and such. The simple synths and vocals make the track acceptable for the mainstream to thrash on the radio if they want to. Cheese is not always played on the radio. However, Cheese is not always bad, and just because you dont like a track its not cheese. Cheese can be likable, and I guess what is cheese differs from person to person, but that is my definition.

wow. thanks for the support people :p

and uh.. yeah.. i'll look for some dumonde. about direct connect, i noticed that you had to be an 'active member' of TA in order to be in it, and I hardly consider someone with 2 posts to be that so.. maybe i'll try registering in 6 months or so :happy2:

And about those 'key names'.. i've heard of a lot of those guys except for 'MIKE' and 'Gouryella'.

Thanks for your definition on cheese, escee. I.. kind of get it now :)

And yeah... I guess i do mostly listen to hard stuff... but i liked Rapid Eye - Circa Forever (from this site lol).. good stuff, imo it's soothing or something :toothless
haven't really listened to sets (mostly because i'm on 56k) but i have listened to some of syfoon's (www.syfoon.com) sets. Not sure if you guys have heard of him, but he's this guy that remixes and puts things into sets using computer software.
