It would be interesting to hear, what would be #1 on your agenda if you had political power, what matters most to YOU?
:) go in to detail if you would like, and why it is the most important, I think this could turn into a rather interesting thread :) :D

Hmm, shame this thread hasn't got more attention.
For me, it has got to be the separation of church and state. There's nothing more offensive to me that people pushing values on you that are derived from ancient myths. |

This also pisses me off. And it doesn't have to only involve religious values. The extremes of any group (i.e. political, religous/moral, social) blindly insist that their position is "the way." Let people make up their own minds and think for themselves. |

You're absolutely right, it's not the religions that are the problem, it's people's unwillingness to respect each others individuality. |

right now alternative energy... but no one talks about it in the US... The idea is twofold, to financially bankrupt enemy arab nations, and to make the US have a more self sufficient energy policy... We'd also be a lot richer country by not giving the arab oil barons so much money for their oil.
A shorter term plan would be to work with the Russians to help them produce more oil and arrange a deal with the Russians. Russians need money, we need oil, etc. |

absolute freedom would be fun, I'd buy a gun and kill someone, others would do the same, and scare everyone into submission. (hence my opinion that absolute freedom can not exist) |

its the principal that counts. anyways, scaring everyone into submission would no longer mean freedom. and also ppl are scared nowadays anyway. |

hmm
R 18+ classification for video and computer games
i dunno if other countries have it but we dont in australia. it means anything that isnt suitable for ma 15+ will be banned or censored enough to make it suitable for other classifications. i dont know why there is no 18+ classification, perhaps the OFLC (office of film and literature classification) still thinks that only kids play games and there isnt anyone over 18 who gets them! but if i was in politics somehow then i would push for that. it just pisses me off. |

Age discrimination is another issue that really bothers me. There is no good justification for it that can't also be used to justify discrimination on the basis of intelligence (of course, we'd probably do that too if we could measure it as easily as age). If a 12 year old should happen to be exceptionally mature for his age, there is no justification for a law that prevents him from, say, drinking, just because most of the people his age could not handle the responsibility. |

| While it's certantly not the thing I'm most pationate about, the one thing I'd look to change if I was in a position of power, is the innefeciency of the public school system. |

that would be a natural result of absolute freedom though.. the idea that anyone can freely kill anyone would be the biggest blow to freedom itself anyways. Therefore you need governments to set the framework whereby freedom can exist. Without social order you can have no freedom & without government you can have no social order. Small tribes are an exception as they are too small to need a strong established governance. |
