I was just wondering: is trance harder to mix than techno?
Beause in trance you have a lot of melodies and vocals, and in techno it's just just a good beat with almost no vocals.
It looks to me like it is. (but who am I:toothless )

Trance intros/outros rarely have vocals or melody...

trance is easy
techno, depends on what kind...

IMO trance is harder to straight mix because even in the intro/outro most Trance has much more layers than most Techno songs will ever have. But in Techno I mix differently than I do Trance, with Trance I don't really try for tricks or cut up records but rather create a journey/flow with tune selection. With Techno I like cutting up tracks, throwing samples from other tunes over one another, generally playing around which at times can be considered more difficult than doing long straight mixes.

I would say that Trance is harder to mix than techno...just because techno relies more on the beat than it does the melody and it's easier to mix the beats.

Ive tried mixing loads of different genres and trance, on avreage (depends on the tunes), is the hardest for me, usually because of the more complex basslines with different rhythms, sometimes they mess with my head when im trying to beatmatch.

personally I haven't had much experience with mixing at all... but I would say that trance isn't all that hard to mix, since it's usually done traditionally from one to the next etc.

I'd say that DJing techno is a whole other world. Certainly, it can be easy, but that depends on how complicated you want to get. A lot more things can be done with techno when you're spinning it.. for instance, tracks can be layered without clashing different melodies, all sorts of effects work well on it because often techno is much simpler than trance, in that it is mostly beats.

To sum up, mixing trance is mostly straight forward, but mixing techno can be very creative, and range from being simple, to being extremely difficult.

It's not hard to mix. However, it's not easy to make a good mix ;)
