I think you forgot to mention extreme right-wing Pim Fortuyn's (hope i spelled it correctly) murder, and that they caught his assassin... Some radical green party activist if i remember correctly.

And if you wanna know something about the balkan area, situation is more or less peaceful for now. But the political parties that are currently governing Croatia and Serbia show much incompetence, so they are losing popularity, and currently most people are indifferent. That's why serbians don't have a president now, because not enough people took the elections. Bosina is still under UN and EU surveilance, and both croat and serb minorities want to gain independence, and UN is the only thing stopping them from doing so. It's gonna be interesting what happens when they go away. Kosovo's status is not really known right now, it is like a serbian province under UN's protectorate. Macedonia is more or less withou problems after recent albanian unsatisfaction. Nothing happening with Albania as much as I know...But I don't expect it to last for long, here a new country is formed about every 20 years. My grandma lived in 7 of them and never moved much from her house.

around around 51,000 USD. that is plenty - i dont think that the firefighters in the USA make that much, maybe after being in the service for tons of years - maybe.

I doubt they seriously expected £30k, but whatever they demanded the govt would halve it, so they start off with a large playing field. Typical negotiation tactics.

Few people doubt that £20K ($30K) is enough, it's the fact that promotion is stagnant that bothers most. And everybody knows that "modernisation" is a politician's term for job losses. Personally I'm in two minds about the issue, it's hard to say, but there's a lot of BS floating around the media it's hard to know whose bull to believe! After the miner's strike in the 80s and the appalling brutal conduct of Thatcher's govt I find it quite difficult to sympathise with the politicians over this, but equally the demands of the firefighters are bizarre, why don't they ask for rises in increments? A 40% rise is a bizarre demand - apparently some regulatory body suggested both the MPs and the fire service be given a 40% rise. The politicians happily took theirs, while the firefighters got nothing, which started this whole thing.

yeah, but the U.S. has the most depressing poilital scene... the things they fight over, and he atrocities they pull... you wonder if they care at all. The house majority leader Trent Lott got caught saying racist remarks last week... he doesnt want to leave though.... whatever.

Like? Be a bit more specific.

But I wonder if US-politics is especially depressing compared to politics in other countries. Politics is depressing.
