umm...where to start?

no one said he was underground, he WAS underground about 6 years ago...and some of the music from that time period produced by him has that character...

he didnt grow up in a trailer, thus not trailer trash - if youre referencing the movie, its a fictional work...

if you think he's some sort of media pawn, feel free. i really dont understand why he isn't worthy of discussion in a MUSIC forum...if you wanted to get technical, you can see a lot of similarities in hip hop and electronic music production, or all genres of music for that matter.

he is a good lyricist, possibly one of the best. he is white, was lower class and is now popular - i fail to see how that makes him a bad person, musician whatever...

i should stop now cause youll prolly just make 3 posts with quotes and YOU BIZ!! in the subject headers.....late|

Well Marc, anyone can write down lyrics, rehearse them a few hundred times, and get it right. I think I've got a right to not like Eminem, as a personal preference. I never said I didn't like the genre of rap and/or hip-hop in generalI can say I listen to rap and hip-hop, but I can also say I'd rather listen to something like Common, Jurrassic 5, and the like. I KNOW they've got talent and it definetly shows through in the work that they do. But then again, that's just me

Just some advice for you Marc: Before you go on ranting about people being close-minded and such, you should find out if they really are. Otherwise, you'll end up labeling someone like me, who probably listens to other music genres besides trance and electronica alot more often than quite alot people in this forum, as close-minded when they're far from it. I did write about people trashing other genres in another post and how it was wrong for them to do so, but I guess you didn't see that. I don't appreciate being wrongly labeled. Find out the facts before ranting about people and going on witch-hunts

lukewarm regards

Ok Eminem has talent in terms of how he can rhyme. That's the ONLY way I would have any sense of respect for him. Other then that what kind of "musician/artist" talks of physically beating his wife etc? That right there loses 3/4 of the respect I would normally have for a rapper.

Ok Heres the deal...first off shut it...(i know great intro :D...but live with it). Eminem is dre's project...he managed to find an underutilized sector in rap...disgruntled white boy, same formula as alternative rock...yeah eminem can rhyme, he has those skills, i could care less about his opinion about life cause it holds no insight for me. He is representing raps growing population of young white peeps, simple as that. IMO he is just like those bands that are put together to fill a niche, and he does a great job at filling that niche. So yeah he is in the spotlight saying controvertial , wow thats a new recipe...

Bottom Line: Dre is a marketing genius...

Agreed. If he were black and writing the same rhymes, I doubt he'd be successful at all. But hey, we can't do anything about it, so why complain...

Look, I like some of Eminem's older works, and I think he is DAMN good lyricist, one of the best. His rhyme structure is very good. But his new stuff is just pure trash, where he does the same thing over and over trying to "shock" people and he's a damn hyppocrite always complaining about the media and people censoring him when he might as well be in the same catergory as N'Sync at this point. He is top 40 commercial now, end of story.

personally.. i disagree with this, im no real big fan of eminem either. im not standing up for eminem in any way for the intention of this post. but for your quote. emceeing (freestyling for those who are un-educated on this subject) takes alot of work to get it right. it takes tremendous amounts of practice to be able to flow right. and im not talkin about this trash like cash money millionaires, master p, ludacris, cam'ron, ect ect. these people and anyone thats mainstream probably for the last 5 year IMO have ruined hip-hop. i can obviously understand why y'all think eminem is just another sell out (which now i do kinda think is true) but he wasnt before.

most of you people have no clue what hip-hop is or what hip-hop is bout(im a bboy btw). 4 elements of hip hop are bboying (breakdancing for those who are uneducated) emceeing, graffiti, and turntableism (turntables, decks, scratching, you get the idea). hip-hop is not about bitches and chiva folks. still artist today do keep real hip-hop alive, but you wont find any of that on the radio.. so yah. but to say that emceeing takes no talent, you really need to get your facts straight..

songs, just cuz i love you guys.

I def know all about hip-hop, i used to listen to the good shizz, i stopped listening around the time of Jay-Z, I used to listen to eric b and rakim, EPMD, big daddy kane, special ed, de la soul, brand nubians, NWA, gangstarr, tribe called quest, pete rock and cl smooth...i could go on and on, i grew up in a town that was purely hip hop before it was even called hip hop lol. Hip Hop has become commerical, i like the old school, basically anything before 96, as for eminem he doesn't impress me, he uses shock techniques to sell records, many have been there done that, its just that he is catering to the largest growing population of hip hop listeners which is the white males, so as i said i think the marketing behind him was great, but he's just another industry hack....

wow, im not just defending marc, but jeez..

what makes Common or j5 more talented than eminem? the fact that they arent mainstream?

dont preach the fact you are open minded...just attempt to be so.

everyone is closed minded in some way...

you come off as an ass, marc was reasonable|

The fact that i used your post as an example doesn't mean i'm targeting you in particular. i'm commenting on a lot of the people here who start bash this dj or that dj threads and say they have no talent because something changes. it's not even dislike for any person in particular, its more a dislike for how things go, ya know. anyways, i dont even know you so how could i even begin to call you closed-minded or anything like that? and on top of that, i'm just some random guy on the internet with one thing in common, what difference could my opinion possibly make?

cheers,
-marc

Well Kimmi, I know who you are and ive known you for quite some time. Think anyone can do what Eminem does? Id like to see you rehearse lyrics a few hundred times and get in front of a crowd and do what Eminem does. Or maybe try selling millions of copies of something. Try getting booed at by crowds of ppl or even while receiving an award. Think you can do that? You cant even handle a silly joke from me without taking it personally.
