Help needed with turntable setup

Hey everybody,

I'm totally new to the whole DJ'ing thing, so I have a couple questions. I received yesterday the Numark Battle Pack (don't flame me), and everything seems to be alright. My problem is when I hook up the turntables and speakers to the mixer. I get no sound from the speakers and headphones when I plug them in. All I can hear is the internal sound of the song being played from the turntable when a record is spinning. It does not seem to play thru the mixer to the speakers. From what I can tell, I hooked everything up correctly. The speakers I am using are home stereo speakers (nothing fancy). Will these work or will I need to buy special speakers to use? If so what kind? Also, could the mixer be faulty in any way? If anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate it.

no, u dont need no "special" speakers to use and dj. The home stereo speakers u said that you are using, is it like a stereo with speakers or just speakers alone?

if it's a stereo then it should have the RCA slots on the back and thats where you should hook your line out from your mixer to the stereo.

If the stereo speakers u said u are using are only speakers without a stereo to amplify it then u will need either an amp or a receiever to hear sounds from those speakers.

as for the mixer being faulty, u can always check to see if its working by pluggin in your headphones to see if you can hear anything. If you can hear, then the mixer is fine.

I hope that helps.

btw, check this website out. It's very good for starting out people like me and u:

I bought this pack about a half a year ago, now I wish I had saved for Techs but oh well...
Make sure the line switches are set to whichever set of rca jacks your tables are plugged into, otherwise check if you have the master volume down???
I had no problem setting mine up, and mine are going through home speakers...

just play about with the switches and stuff coz they are prolly on line in instead of phono or u might have the kill switches on...
