hey guys,
i posted this in the aussie forums because i think its more relevant here considering the type of models we get here and ... but basically i need a minidisc recorder so i can record my mixes straight from the mixer... wherever i am... i have hooked my mixer up to the computer and it works shonky at best... (sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt... :/) anyway a minidisc would be cool... portable and i could record anywhere... also i could take it to events maybe and record cool sets :D? but as i know ALL about minidiscs i thought id ask you guys... if any of you may have one... what there like? would they be ideal to suit my purposes? the mzn1 looks awsome but thats like the best one you can get and way expensive... what do you guys reckon? be cool to play all internet audio on it too. Also what do you know about recording live like say at a event and if i had it in my pocket or something... has anyone does this? understandbly the quality wouldnt be that great im sure but does anyone know exactly how bad (or good!?) it would sound...!?
and if anyone can "aquire" one to sell at a cheap price gimme a pm :tongue2 |

I used to use a Sony Minidisc for portable music .. they are pretty decent machines, Sony so u know they are going to be reasonable quality. If you're only going to use it for recording mixes, I'd recommend getting one of the cheaper ones, the expensive ones have a lot of useless features.
Also don't forget that Minidiscs themselves aren't cheap or easy to find...
Best link I can give is www.minidisc.org (I think that's it). There's a big forum dedicated to minidiscs there, they should be able to help u in more depth :) |

Depends on what you're after in a minidisc.
If you want it for recording, but you need to record off a pc, you'll need a "NET-MD", and they range in price, but if you just need one that does the job, without all the little added extras, it wouldnt be too expensive.
Data space is limited to the disks, which are usually about 80min of cd quality sound - you want more, give up quality, or buy something else.
You can buy little microphones that plug into the md and record your concerts, but im not sure what the quality would be like in your pocket, may want the mic. hanging outside or something.
Failing all that, if you want portability, and the top of the range in that, then go for panasonic e-wear. Expensive, but sweet as :)
hope that helps you slightly... |

I've got the most basic one with long play.
mzr 500 I think? bought it november last year if that helps.
you can record from any source to it, so long as it's 3.5mm to 3.5mm or rca to 3.5mm (you have to buy that cord seperate).
you do not need a netmd, that just copies the files over, whereas with the old ones you merely record it from your ouput IE. 3 hrs of music takes 3 hrs to record etc.
I enjoyed mine, but if I save up I'm gonna buy webmeister's toy! ho damn!
WM, can you post the link for Jah pls?? |

Oh yeah I've recorded mixes to md no problem, just put the output into the md :D
Although I think using a microphone to bootleg live sets would en up being shhiittttyyy quality, you wouldn't be able to catch 1/2 the sounds....
Good luck, Jah. |

Doesnt netMD come with better quality conversion of files from your pc to md. The old method through the regular output in your sound card is analog; not as good a quality. |

Yes and no AussieTrance .. if you have a sound card or DVD player with optical out, you can record digitally to your minidisc with zero loss of quality. However optical out ports are pretty rare, though I vaguely remember seeing a USB optical out plug..
link to my toy :) |

| quote: | | PS - I've got an MZ-N1 and I have no real complaints with it. Also the MZ-N10 is already out in Japan, so this may lead to the price of the MZ-N1 dropping significantly in a few months... I'd wait till after Christmas if I was you. |
yeah i just saw on www.minidisc.com.au! crazy! i might wait, thats what i was thinking thanks for the sites dude |
